Though its success in trying to make this fine game more palatable to a broader audience is a qualified one at best, perhaps the most satisfying aspect of OutRun 2006 is how confidently it assuages any fears that the golden formula might somehow seem less entertaining next to EA and Criterion's aggressively trailblazing Burnout games.

It may not be the most lightning fast and intense action game you'll ever play, but with its accessible and satisfying gameplay tweaked to near perfection, Rogue Trooper makes a satisfying case for its easily dismissed genre.

That's how many terrorists I'd killed by the end of Without Warning. Somehow that seems like a lot to me. Were this some kind of a helicopter game that involved blowing up terrorist bases, or an unsettling cruise missile targeting simulator, that number of deaths might seem about right. In a game about three commandos operating over a twelve hour period, it seems a little implausible.

Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy sat in my "to-play" pile for months, probably more than a year if I wanted to be accurate about it. I'm a big fan of third-person adventure games, and after reading Mike's opinion, I thought it was a safe purchase on the cheap. The problem was that I never felt like playing it. The box art is very mediocre and not the sort of eye-catcher that jumps out from the shelf, and with an onslaught of other titles that I had been anticipating or that needed reviews, it never got its turn at bat.
