I wonder how different this review would have been if I had played Medal of Honor: Vanguard
before trying the demo for Medal of Honor: Airborne
. While it's true that almost no game looks good when placed next to its immediate successor, I feel that the things that Vanguard
gets wrong are so clearly and fundamentally awful that even if I hadn't played the wonderful Airborne
demo I'd still have realized just what an atrocious waste of time Vanguard
Game Description: Medal of Honor: Vanguard lets you return to the days of the Second World War, for more of its pioneering first-person shooter action. Join the ranks of the elite 82nd Airborne Division as Corporal Frank Keegan. You'll guide him through some of WWII's deadliest operations—dropping behind enemy lines, sometimes right on top of entrenched Axis positions. Work with America's first paratroopers on heroic missions, from Operation Husky in Sicily to Operation Varsity inside Nazi Germany. Medal of Honor: Vanguard makes you the driving force in the struggle to liberate Europe.

I think it really says something about the maturity and freestanding quality of the medium that there can be a game that derives so much entertainment purely from self-reflexivity. That videogames provide such fertile ground for multi-dimensional satire (no pun intended) is as sure a sign as any of the creative health of the art form.

According to at least one source, the Nintendo Wii has already surpassed the XBox 360 in worldwide sales, despite the 360's early launch. Not only is the Wii a really fast-selling console, it's the fastest selling console ever.

The Transformers name promises giant robots hitting one another, and the developer, Traveler's Tales, is responsible for the single greatest licensed game in recent memory, Lego Star Wars
. With expectations running that high, there's only one way way to approach the title—try to figure out just what the heck went wrong.
