Ah, Future Tactics … currently a red-headed stepchild of the videogame review world. Saddled with poor cover art and positioned as a budget release, nearly every write-up I've read takes delight in putting it down, many of them aggressively. Not being independently wealthy, I held off on a purchase myself until I saw a demo running.

Game Description: The future looks grim for humans unless you've got what it takes to save the world. In Future Tactics: The Uprising you can lead your team of rag-tag human survivors against the multi-dimensional creature overlords who have taken over Earth. Game focuses on action, not stats, and the terrain is reformed as you attack blasting holes in walls, making craters out of meadows and sending boulders flying like toys. Customizable 2-player battle mode lets you modify handicaps, power-ups and victory conditions. Or play 19-level story mode and earn points to upgrade to more powerful weapons.

Blaster Master: Blasting Again, as the name implies, is a really stupid game. You are this guy in a silly helmet who runs around in a tank with a woman's name fighting aliens underground.

Game Description: The Plutonian Boss is reanimating and causing geological incidents. Now it's up to Roddy and Elfie to take their SOPHIA tank underground and stop him. You must help Roddy and Elfie navigate through eight levels of action as they search for their evil nemesis. Along the way, you can collect power-ups like power boosts, shields, and weapons boosts. Get into the action and save the planet from half-machine, half-human monsters in Blaster Master: Blasting Again.

I remember a number of years ago, when the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was still in its infancy, the violent and controversial tournament made its way to my hometown. The night of the show, a local, highly experienced and well respected martial arts instructor was asked for his opinion of the tournament. He replied that it is not real martial arts not because the fighters lack technique, but because the martial arts are not really about fighting.

I disagree with Mike on his assessment of UFC Tapout's fighting engine. True, the standing game is not full of dazzling combos, but this is the point, to make a skill out of prediction. Its almost an art to watch for openings in your opponents attacks, and suddenly grab a limb out of the air to slam their body into the ground.
