If history has taught us one thing, it's that people love it when characters verse other characters. Eighty percent of the Japanese film industry is predicated upon Godizilla's continued interest in fighting a wide variety of giant monsters. One of the most burning questions on the playgrounds of my childhood concerned whether He-Man could beat Luke Skywalker in a fight. It's only natural, then, that I'm fond of Capcom's habit of pitting their roster of game characters against all comers.

Nostalgia isn't something that you can feel unless enough time passes, and now that I am a bit older, I can feel nostalgia creeping up on me. It seems that others are aware of the creeping as well, because lately, I can't help but find all sorts artifacts from my childhood suddenly showing up for sale. Transformers are back; He-Man is back; and even Scooby Doo is back. With regards to Scooby, I actually had a terrible suspicion that it would be a bad movie even before watching. However, for the sake of nostalgia, I was willing to give it a chance. Sadly, not only were my suspicions confirmed, I was also denied a trip down memory lane. The main characters resembled more like caricatures out of popular teen movies instead of what I remembered from the original cartoon. I understand that an update of sorts might be necessary, but by changing the characters, the essence of the original cartoon was lost, along with any nostalgia I might have felt for it.

Is there a videogame series in history thats gone through more incarnations than Capcoms Street Fighter? I really dont think so. Like ice cream purveyor Baskin-Robbins, Capcoms motto seems to be "31 flavors" when it comes to their most famous franchise.

I think my main problem with the game is that it doesnt take enough chances. The arcade-style retro approach that the game takes is strikingly different from most games currently on the market, but the designers never exploit it in any remarkable way.

Cannon Spike proved to be a good time for a short while thanks to the two-player mode, but it cannot escape the limitations of being an arcade port. Generic enemies, bosses and environments might have made the game progressively unenjoyable, but insufficient continues and a steep difficulty curve made it unbearable relatively quickly. It's amazing that after I set my sights low, expecting nothing more than a fun multiplayer experience, Cannon Spike still managed to disappoint.
