Donkey Kong

The GameStation is back with a sequel to its clever Mario Brothers/Grand Theft Auto mash up. This time, there is a new Don, a Don-Key Kong, stepping on Bowser's turf. Who does he call for help? The Brothers Mario of course.

At first I couldn't see Donkey Kong and Mario as enemies going up against Bowser. That was until I realized that, historically speaking, Donkey Kong and Mario have been enemies from Nintendo's beginning. I guess years of watching them pal around in Super Mario Kart, Mario Tennis and Super Smash Bros. skewed my view.

Now that it is about to release Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo goes out and trademarks a catchphrase that no one says anymore. Just like a corporation to be so far behind the times. Stephen Colbert and his writers took notice though and came up with their own. Not the best skit, but the catchphrase for Kirby is the best.

Yeah, it's old, but I thought it was cute seeing someone using an classic toy like Legos to recreate a classic videogame like Donkey Kong.

I see too much potential in the DK Bongos to brand them a publicity stunt just yet. Hopefully Nintendo does, too.

Game Description: Donkey Konga is a fun music-based game for a unique kind of gameing experience. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong came across a pair of weird barrels on a deserted beach. They take them to Cranky Kong for an explanation and discover that the barrels are really a legendary musical instrument that plays music when you drum or clap. Now they'll try to become famous musicians and earn fame, fortune and lots of bananas!

To anyone whos played Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 (DK64) can give you a serious case of déjà vu. First off, the two games look strikingly similar. In some instances, it looks like worlds were plucked right out of Banjo-Kazooie and pasted into DK64. The textures and colors of the landscapes, although a bit more detailed and abundant, seem familiar and barely changed.
