No one can argue against Rallisport Challenge's amazing graphics, presentation, and accurate representation of its cars. However, once you get past the glitz and play this game for any length of time, its weaknesses begin to shine through.
For reference, I am a big fan of racing games--both "sim" and "arcade" styles. Unfortunately, Rallisport Challenge falls somewhere in between these two categories and suffers from a lack of identification. Although the sense of speed in the game is terrific, the navigator can rarely keep up with the action. This will often lead to the comical crashes the reviewer mentioned. As for various car settings, neither they nor damage have any noticeable effects on handling. By the time you reach the upper levels of racing, and get your hands on the most powerful cars, they're handling is so abysmal that you'll be begging for the "easier" cars. Sure enough, you can win the later stages with the beginner cars.
Perhaps my biggest complaints are the lack of a mid-rally save point and the resetting of your car on the track if you get all 4 wheels inside a corner.
Rallisport Challenge is a good game, but it's not as great as its graphics would lead you to believe.
