ESRB Rating: Everyone
As I said in my review, those people with big hands that always
had problems with the smaller Nintendo controller should take heed, as this is the controller for you. The Advanced Control Pad works perfectly
with every game that the Nintendo controller was made for and it's sturdy design means it'll outlast your original controller.
Most of the gadgets (memory paks and rumble paks) fit and work fine but in all fairness, not all peripherals work with Nintendo's
own controller so it's probably not much of an issue. If you're looking for a replacement to your old Nintendo controller then at
its cost, durability and functionality the Advanced Control Pad is the perfect buy. |
Without a doubt the best console controller ever made to date shipped with the Nintendo 64 back in 1996. Before then and
since nothing has been as revolutionary and changed the way we played games with the introduction of one option: the analog
stick. This one feature was both a testament to Nintendo's philosophy of offering new gaming experiences but was the most
natural progression for gaming as we moved into the 3D arena. You need only play Mario 64 or The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time for a few minutes to
understand just how important. But Nintendo didn't rely on the analog stick to be enough, they went and redesigned their
controller to be as much of a jack-of-all-trades as possible. Everything was fitted on a molding with three-pronged handle
for varying hand positions depending on player preference. All in all the design was close to perfect and indeed a tough act
to follow.
If they are known for anything, peripheral manufacturers are known for never passing up an opportunity to copy a good
thing. It was only a year ago when Mad Catz did the unthinkable and tried to be the first manufacture to release a controller
that actually improved on the original. And that's what we have with the Advanced Control Pad. First thing you'll notice
is the size of the controller. It's size must be a Godsend for players with big hands and fingers as the Nintendo 64 controller was
mainly designed with the smaller hands of Japanese players in mind. It has a sturdy feel to it and comes with a welcome bit
of rubber padding on the underside that seriously aided my grip. Keeping with the "big" theme, Mad Catz increased the size of
the face buttons (A, B, and C) and provided a much sturdier analog stick which again is welcome to those blessed with large
digits and/or lacking in dexterity. And as if by habit, the Advanced Control Pad comes with the prerequisite turbo and slow-motion options
available on all third party controllers. My only complaint is the slightly cramped feel of the Z-trigger which is placed
close to the memory slot, but it's not a major issue. Overall the Advanced Control Pad is the first and only real improvement on a controller
I've come across and I highly recommend it.
