RATING

When I first laid eyes on the original Nintendo 64 controller, I thought it was a remarkable piece of engineering and thought that nothing could follow in its glory. Over the years, many 3rd-party manufacturers have tried and almost all have failed. That is, however, until now. Looking like a Vulcan Bird of Prey, the Advanced Control Pad by Mad Catz is the only other Nintendo 64 controller that is on par with the original. I really didn't take note of the bigger size as much as Dale did, but what I did like was the rubber grip feel and the way the middle handle on the Z-trigger feels more like holding the handle of a gun. The analog stick isn't as loose as the original Nintendo controller, but it's not as awkwardly tight as other 3rd-party controllers are. The buttons did feel a little cheap, but they are certainly serviceable. I didn't have any issues with the placement of the Z-trigger like Dale, but the location of the R-shoulder button seemed a little tight as I had to scrunch my index finger up a bit in order to use it. Other than that, this is a really solid controller and some may even prefer it to the original.
