Life can be strange. I find it fascinating that you can see someone (or something) for years and not know a thing about them. It's true of the myriad people you pass everyday, each with rich lives you'll never be a part of. But it can also apply to games.

Deus Ex also earned critical acclaim for the way it seamlessly blended diverse gaming genres into a cohesive and entertaining whole. At first glance, the game appears to be yet another first-person shooter (FPS). Everything is viewed from JCs perspective and theres lots of running around and shooting. However, the game also incorporates an abundance of gameplay elements from role-playing games (RPGs).

I would go so far as to say that the game would have been far more enjoyable had it nothing to with racing, but was simply a fast-paced platform game. That is because the core element of the game suffers from one big, ugly nail in the coffin.

A bum walks up to me and begs for me to kill him. Because its just a game, I shoot him in the face, and then he screams and falls dead. That is a scenario that would be described by some people as funny, especially with the unattractive character models, unrealistic blood and in a post-Grand Theft Auto III context.

Gamers who crave something fresh. Rather than be sated solely with the next by-the-numbers FPS or 3D adventure title, they're looking for those rare, rough-edged fringe projects so full of creativity that they don't fit cleanly into any one genre.
