Sony slashes PlayStation Portable to $130!

Sony PlayStation Portable 3000 Image

If you bought a PlayStation Portable on Saturday (or earlier) for 169.99, you will not like this. If you purchased a PSP Go! on Saturday (or earlier) for around $190, you're probably already pissed because you now own a PSP Go! Today Sony has officially dropped the price of the PlayStation Portable by $40 down to a very manageable $129.99. And what's more, Sony has announced new additions to its Greatest Hits and Favorites collections.

Video: Good Idea #357: Deep fry PlayStation Portable then eat it

Winning the award for dumbest thing I've ever seen someone do this year is this video out of Japan. Some genius and other MENSA members got together and decided it was a good idea to deep fry a PlayStation Portable. If that weren't bad enough, they then concluded that it would be a good idea to then eat it.

Now how much do you hate Sony, the PlayStation Portable or living that you'd do something so asinine?

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite... finished

I announced this on twitter a few days ago, but it was such a milestone for me that I felt like a little micro-commemoration here at the blog would be appropriate. The big event? I finally finished the single-player campaign in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PlayStation Portable.

The NGP appears and some Torchwood talk

Sony NGP Next Generation Portable Image

So it took a few hours off of Twitter the other night, and when I got back, my feed was absolutely exploding with talk about the announcement of the NGP—Sony's next-generation successor to the PSP. I'm going to reserve most of my thoughts for later. However, I will say that I could not be happier that someone at Sony R&D finally realized the catastrophic error of their ways and added a second stick to the hardware.

Consoleation: December 2010 console gaming sales data

Nintendo righted the Wii ship a little with decent December in terms of sales. Comparatively speaking, however, Nintendo's victory was hollow when you notice that Wii sales were down a whopping 38% year-over-year (YOY). Put that number next to a 42% increase YOY for the Xbox 360 and you can argue that Nintendo wasn't a winner at all.

Consoleation: Five predictions for 2011

Portal 2 Screenshot

2011 has the potential to be a big year for video games. We're weeks away from seeing the Nintendo 3DS hit retail, motion control technology for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 will continue to mature, and there's going to be plenty of software just waiting to be bought. Before the year really gets into high gear, I'm going to log five predictions here about some events that I think will happen.

2010 in Review: Not a Top 10 List!

Lara Croft and the Gaurdian of Light Screenshot

Since all my esteemed colleagues seem to be doing it, I feel compelled to slap together thoughtfully craft a year-end assessment of my own. As there enough "Top 10 of 2010" lists to make a "Top 10 'Top 10 of 2010' lists" list, I won't be making one of those. Instead, I'll just ramble about some trends of 2010 and release you unharmed back to the Internet wilderness.
