The Horror Geek presents E3 2009: Heavy Rain trailer

Lots of cool looking horror/thriller stuff coming out of this year's E3.

Heavy Rain, a PlayStation 3 exclusive from developers Quantic Dream, looks like something of a spiritual successor to their earlier hit, Indigo Prophecy. Details about the game have been fairly scarce, but we do know that the title will be a dark noir thriller without any supernatural overtones. The game is said to revolve around four main characters (and someone known as "The Origami Killer") and apparently focuses on the blurred line between what is good and what is evil.

Expect to learn more about Heavy Rain as E3 rages on. In the meantime, take a look at the trailer.

The Horror Geek presents E3 2009: Dante's Inferno trailer

E3 2009 madness continues, now with a new look at Electronic Arts' highly anticipated horror game, Dante’s Inferno.

The new trailer for the game (which is being developed by EA's Visceral Studios—which is the new name for EA's Redwood Shores Studios) will do little to dispel the whole "God of War in Hell" vibe that's come to surround the title, but gamers who feel that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery should still find much to like in this roughly two-and-a-half minute preview.

Quick bits

After getting about 2/3rds of the way through inFamous, if not more, I basically wrote my entire review in about forty minutes.

inFamous SreenshotI'm going to keep pushing forward and finish it off, but I'd be very surprised if anything in this last section really changes my opinion.

Besides inFamous, I'm putting the finishing touches on my upcoming Crimson Gem Saga review, I've got a few more entries to do for my "Best of Community" feature, and as if all that wasn't enough, I've been toying with the idea of doing the main review for Fallout 3.

InFamous Impressions

So, I told myself I wasn't going to plunk the money down after playing the InFamous demo on the PlayStation Network, but I did. It's just that I've been playing so many RPGs lately that I was starting to burn out of gaming altogether, and I definitely needed something action-oriented to get the juices flowing again. I was weak, I admit it.

Music games inspiring kids no matter what Prince thinks

After learning about The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition Premium Bundle, I thought Electronic Arts had lost its collective mind. A videogame bundle that cost as much as the console it plays on? What is this Steel Battalion? We all remember how successful that was, right?

But this only speaks to the incredible popularity of the genre. A popularity that attracts criticism and praise.

Beautiful Mirror's Edge-inspired photo set

Mirror's Edge Live Action Shots - Savage Land Pictures

Fans of games are always ready to dress up like their favorite characters. What compels them to do so is anyone's guess... actually I wouldn't even want to know. But sometimes you get really stunning tributes like this one. Savage Land Pictures' crew is a collection of professionals who make their living in the movie industry. Apparently, Faith as a character and Mirror's Edge as a backdrop proved quite appealing for this project.

The best game I haven't played yet: Way of the Samurai 3

Way of the Samurai 3 Screenshot - I'm already terrified. I think.

Way of the Samurai 3 came about back in November, but sadly it remains the best game I haven't played yet. Why? Because it was only released in Japan, and although PS3s are admirably region-free, the Japanese language's stubborn refusal to transform magically into English has transformed the prospect of importing a copy of it from a delightful dream into an utter waste of money.

So, until some publisher spends the absolutely minimal amount of money required to turn the menus and text into English, I'll have to be satisfied with a brief preview of a game that may never see a North American release.

(sigh)

50 Cent: Blood on the Sand Review

He's after his cheddar... if by "cheddar" you mean "diamond-encrusted skull"

HIGH Co-op campaigns are always welcome.

LOW How quickly the game falls into stolid repetition.

WTF The entire story, pretty much.
