Blood Omen 2 – Consumer Guide

Brad Gallaway's picture

According to ESRB, this game contains: Blood and Gore, Violence

Parents should pass on Blood Omen 2. While it has a high cool factor, don't be duped into paying good money for this shoddy piece of programming. Quality assurance issues aside, the game features a ton of killing (both human and monster) and graphic bloodsucking. Some of the stealth kills are a bit on the gory side, and some of the helpless villagers plead for mercy and squeal in pain. There's no sexual content or questionable language, but the sadism factor is pretty high. Be warned.

Text Accompanying Audio: None. Be warned that this game will have almost no redeeming value whatsoever if you can't hear the spoken audio.

Gamers in general should stay away from Blood Omen 2. While the basic elements for a winning game seem to be in place, it's both surprising and bitterly disappointing that the total package falters everywhere it counts. It'll be too boring for most people, and the overall quality is the pits. Blood Omen 2 is a third-class experience from start to finish.

Fans of vampires or the Kain series will probably buy the game no matter what I say, but trust me when I say it's the worst game in the series. The significant story elements are too few and far between to justify sitting through this offensive mediocrity.

Action gamers should look elsewhere. Kain's bloody action is slow, dull and repetitive. You'll basically be doing the same three-hit combo for the entire game, and the special powers aren't that special. Also, if you do play this game, I hope you like flipping switches, since there's more switches than enemies and there's a lot of enemies.
