Parents should jump for joy at the thought of their kids playing Save The Homeland. Although it can appeal to any age group, it is bright, colorful and focuses exclusively on constructive activities and social cooperation. It isn't an educational game per se, but any game that makes farming more fun than killing must be doing something right.
Fans of the Harvest Moon series may have some mixed reactions to the first PlayStation 2 installment. Although I can't speak from experience, I am aware that it alters several traditions of the series. All I can say is that, if it is indeed a streamlined version of earlier installments in some ways, it remains a balanced and worth-while experience that may very well be successful in its attempt to appeal to new audiences while remaining true to the core design of the series.
Those who haven't ever played a Harvest Moon game should find it easy enough to get into, provided they enjoy the premise.
