Typing of the Dead – Consumer Guide

Brad Gallaway's picture

According to the ESRB, this game contains: Animated Blood & Gore, Animated Violence

Parents will want to notice that Typing Of The Dead is actually educational in a sense, and while that may or may not make up for the fact that you're destroying rotting corpses in explosions of green blood, at least there's a chance your child will pick up an immediately marketable skill (typing, not zombie killing).

Younger players will want to stay away unless they are spelling and typing prodigies, since the game is squarely aimed at older gamers' reading and typing skills. Some of the game's phrases are loaded with innuendo, which is loads of laughs at a party, but might prompt some interesting questions from younger gamers.

Gamers in general will have a blast if they are at all familiar with a keyboard. It's goofy, silly fun and a lot of laughs while taking out drooling zombies—everyone's favorite pastime. Gather a group of friends or get a comfy typing space for yourself and prepare to have a good time. It's more fun than it looks, trust me.

Sega fans will once again see why the big "S" continues to lead the industry in terms of originality and free thinking in game design. It's short, sweet and to-the-point, like most of Sega's other hits, and it definitely succeeds in delivering the goods.

People who can't type might want to avoid this game if they're not willing to spend a little while in the game's tutorial. If you're not already reasonably skilled with a keyboard when you try that Typing Of The Dead, you may have a rough time. On the plus side, the tutorial is actually very good, so if you've been putting off keyboarding class this is a good way to pick up those much-needed workplace skills while playing a great game at the same time.
