Those who are actually in love with all the FMV and incessant load-times that populate Square's role-playing games (RPGs) these days should be advised that you won't find any of that here. Grandia is also not as melodramatic as one of Square's RPGs; if anything, Grandia is more whimsical and fun. The 2D graphics may throw off those gamers who've become accustomed to RPGs in a 3D world, but remember, the game is two years old and manages to stand up well to every RPG released since then.
Sega loyalists, more specifically, Saturn loyalists, who longed for a translation of Grandia when it was first released in Japan, should jump on this title. There is some censorship going on like replacing all the forms of liquor with coffee, but if you're looking this hard at things, you shouldn't expect to enjoy any part of the game.
If you're any kind of RPG fan, then this should be part of your gaming library; it has an old-school feel and it's a joy to play. It's probably also the best RPG to introduce gamers to who haven't played one before or perhaps younger gamers because it's so easy to get into.
