Horror

Doom 3 – Second Opinion

It's the exponential progression of these things that bothers me most. Ever since the original Doom, the majority of First Person Shooters (FPS) have followed an incredibly strict formula: The hero begins the game with a ridiculously underpowered weapon, and is besieged by an army of enemies that can be just barely killed by that first weapon (it's challenging enough that each enemy put down feels like something of an accomplishment).

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth – Second Opinion

More than anything else, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth truly captures the dark, oppressive and even hopeless feel that many of Lovecraft's stories have in common. Walking through the town of Innsmouth in Jack Walters's shoes was exactly the way I had imagined it to be when I first read the source material, and as Mike says, the attention to detail and small touches of realism help embellish the experience and make it a (mostly) believable, immersive adventure.

Doom 3 – Review

An impressive achievement in audio and visual technology, Doom 3's visceral gameplay is a deliberate throwback to the original Doom from 1993.

Doom 3

Game Description: Doom 3 continues the incredible shooter action of the first two Doom games! The Mars Research Facility has been invaded by demons from Doom, leaving only chaos and horror in their wake. You're one of the only survivors - to stay alive you'll have to fight your way to Hell and back.

Evil Dead: Regeneration – Review

If you love the Evil Dead films, you will enjoy this game. If you don't get giddy every time someone says "say hello to my boomstick," then you're probably better off just skipping this game and the review.

Cold Fear

Game Description: In a ferocious Arctic storm, distress signals are sent from a mysterious Russian whaler. As leading Coast Guard veteran Tom Hansen, you board to investigate and discover unthinkable horrors lurking beneath the ship's bloodstained decks.

Cold Fear – Review

Would coming out four months earlier have made a difference for Cold Fear? The game is so similar in almost every respect that it's difficult not to compare it to Resident Evil 4, and it suffers greatly by that comparison. So the question becomes, if there hadn't been a Resident Evil 4, would Cold Fear have recieved a higher mark than it's getting here? Probably not.
