The Horror Geek presents: New Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles trailer

This new trailer for Capcom's Wii-exclusive Resident Evil title (subtitled The Darkside Chronicles) debuted at Gamescon a few days ago. I was saving it for a slow news day—and lo and behold, that's exactly what today is.

This new clip is almost three minutes in length. It doesn't show any gameplay footage, but does spend a lot of time fleshing out the title's story. Truthfully, the story sounds like your typical Resident Evil tale—scientists playing god create horrible monsters who want to kill people.

I'm still interested in checking out the game. I have a weird fondness for the Resident Evil series' wonky narrative stylings and my Wii hasn't seen a lot of action lately. That will hopefully change when this game hits store shelves sometime this December.

The Horror Geek presents: New Ju-On: The Grudge Wii game trailer

Gamescon has brought us some interesting gaming news this week–but most of it has been mainstream gaming news and not horror gaming news. Despite this, I've managed to pick up a few odds and ends for my survival horror-loving brethren.

Here's the newest promo trailer for Ju-On: The Grudge—the video game adaptation of the popular Japanese horror film franchise. The game is headed to the Wii this October and maybe, just maybe, it'll finally give me a reason to turn my Wii on.

The trailer features the usual dingy visuals and moody music, but it also highlights some of the ways the Wii-mote will be used in game (it's a flashlight) and reveals that the game will score players on how calm they remain during the game's numerous scary moments.

Have a gander at the trailer and see what you think. Apparently, the game is set to retail for a mere $30, which should make it more appealing to gamers on the fence about whether or not they want to play it.

The Horror Geek presents: Resident Evil movie release date moves up

Resident Evil Apocalypse

Usually when I bring you release date news, it's a movie shifting it's release date farther away. Such is not the case with today's news about Resident Evil: Afterlife.

Comingsoon.net is reporting that the fourth film in the popular franchise will now hit theaters on August 27th, 2010. This is a shift forward of several weeks. As reported before, Paul WS Anderson will write and direct and Milla Jovovich will be back as Alice.

Please mark your calendars accordingly.

Left 4 Dead 2 and faithfully waiting for a shield generator

I very much enjoy Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2. I have over 100 hours logged both games and I continue to play today. So, when I first heard the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2 less than a year after the release of the original, my thoughts were of the skeptical variety. A sequel? Really? They hadn’t even released the map tools for the first game at the time. And where the hell is all the DLC Valve promised?

The Horror Geek presents: New Dexter iPhone screenshots

dexter_sdcc_high_res_screenshot

I don't own an iPhone. I have an aversion to Apple products for some reason—but if I did plunk down my hard earned cash for something from Steve Jobs' technological empire, it would be the iPhone—the gaming possibilities alone make me lust after one.

I was fairly skeptical when it was announced that Dexter was coming to the iPhone as a game. I'd love to see a Dexter title (the show is great and certainly lends itself to becoming a game), but I didn't think this was the right platform. Give it to me on the Xbox 360 or PS3, and I'd be happy.

It's still too soon to tell if this adaptation will work or not, but these four new screenshots (courtesy of Games Press and available after the break) have me optimistic. The title looks like a PSP game at this stage—which is better than I expected. No firm release date has been set, but Dexter should be available for purchase later this year.

The Horror Geek presents: Dead Space movie lands a director

dead-space-1

Dead Space was one of the better games of last year—an atmospheric blending of Event Horizon and Alien that gave me hope that maybe game developers can still come up with compelling original properties instead of just churning out sequels.

The game's already spawned a comic book, an anime movie tie-in, a sequel game and a on-rails offshoot title for the Wii—all this on top of the feature film version we’ve been hearing about for some time now.

The Horror Geek presents: Antichrist... The Game?

antichrist-game

I'll be honest…I thought this was an April Fools Day gag when I first read it.

Lars Von Trier's horror flick Antichrist inspired a lot of response at Cannes. There was that whole press conference shouting match between the filmmaker and journalists, the outrage over the sexual violence and gore, and Willem Dafoe's naked butt. Now, there's news that Antichrist might be making the craziest jump of all—to the land of videogames.

/Film brings news that developer Zentropa is planning to bring Von Trier's dark vision to PCs everywhere. The game will be retitled Eden (the name of the cabin Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg retreat to after the death of their child) and is reportedly a first person adventure title being described as a "nightmare version of Myst" (at least that's what everyone's assuming based on a translation…). Eden won't follow the narrative of the film, but Willem Dafoe will be back to voice his character from the movie. One can only hope that the gruesome imagery from the film makes it into the final version of the game.

The Horror Geek presents E3 2009: More footage from Konami's Saw Game

I posted a developer's demo for Konami's Saw videogame a few days ago, but it didn't have any actual combat footage in it. Here's a different clip from GameTrailers, complete with a look at how you'll be fighting your way through and a very unpleasant surprise.

Gamers will be able to decide if they want to live or die this October.

The Horror Geek presents E3 2009: Short teaser for The Grudge

E3's done and over, but there was so much stuff to cover that I'm still posting the things that didn't make it up in the first few days—like this teaser trailer for The Grudge.

XSEED officially announced the game for the Nintendo Wii at the show. Naturally, it's a survival horror title based on the popular Japanese film series. Director Takashi Shimizu is even onboard as a consultant to ensure that the title manages to capture the mood of his films.

Check out the very brief teaser trailer below. Ju-on: The Grudge will attempt to make you toss your Wii-mote in fear this October.

The Horror Geek presents E3 2009: Saw Game demo

I'll be brutally honest—I didn't expect much from a videogame tie-in to the Saw movies. You know the drill…movie tie-ins suck, blah blah blah. Even news of the project winding up in the capable hands of Konami (who seem to have a pretty keen understanding of horror games) wasn't enough to sell me on the idea that navigating an avatar through a maze of Jigsaw traps would actually be fun.

I'm not sure what it is (maybe the lowered expectations, or maybe that game actually looks decent), but I'm warming up to the idea of a Saw game after viewing this demo footage of the title in action at E3. One of the game's associate producers took GameTrailers on a guided tour and things seem to be shaping up nicely.
