Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished The Suffering on Xbox and i must say, i was *quite* surprised at how much better it was than i expected.

Look for it in a future Bargain Basement.

Ys Book I & II. Finally played this game again after so many years and it definitely lives up to the memory. The last boss was about 10,000 times harder than I had remembered though, so it negatively colored what was an otherwise fantastic experience.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

So far I've finished 3 episodes of Sam and Max.

The first episode was pretty clever. The 2nd and 3rd were more of the same though and the puzzles becamse a little predictable at that point.

Still, a fun game. 4th episode seem to be a return to form, so I'm still positive about the entire series.

Just finished Final Fantasy I on the PSP. I had never played it before so it was interesting to see how it all started. I wasn't a big fan of the relatively low difficulty and the high random encounter rate, but it was an enjoyable romp.

I have FF II on the shelf waiting but I've already started Brave Story New Traveler and Tales of the World. It's about time the PSP got some enjoyable RPGs

and now Ys III. I never understood the hate this game gets. Sure it's different from most of the other Ys games, but it's certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I've heard complaints that it's too easy, but that seems ironic when you're talking about a game in a series where all you have to do to defeat every foe is run straight into them.

The bosses were easier I'll admit, but the dungeons themselves were harder if anything, since max level comes quick and easy, and after that it's all up to careful fighting.

finshed Crush on PSP while on a trip, review forthcoming.

A fantastic idea, but the developers get a little crazy with the difficulty, it went from fun and fresh to a tedious drag.

i'm hoping EchoChrome on PS3 (when i actually get a PS3) will follow the same lines, but be less cluttered with gimmicks than Crush was.

Super Metroid

Still so so awesome. Got 96% completion rate, without a guide. NOT BAD considering I haven't played the game in a decade!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Spartan: Total Warrior on Xbox 1.

Great game, highly recommended. I'm thinking of doing a 2nd Op on it, but the review in the archives mirrors my thoughts pretty closely.

It's essentially Dynasty Warriors with better missions, and for someone like me who dislikes the brainlessness of DW, it was surprisingly good.

The developers just announced a Nordic-themed game which i'm hoping will be similar to Spartan, it was good good stuff... especially given that you can snag it used for like, $10 or so.

Thumbs Up!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I finished Sam and Max episode 4, then stopped playing the series because the desktop computer that has those games installed got broke. What rotten luck.

And then, I've lost many sleeps playing Phoenix Wright 3. The verdict? It's amazing! Fans of the previous two games will undoubtedly love this one, as it wraps the series quite well (this is actually the last game of "Phoenix Wright" arc. If I heard it right, the next game, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, is altogether a new story).

Just a warning though, some of the cases are quite hard to figure out. Harder than the previous two games, IMO.

Metroid Prime 3

I'm a bit edgy about certain things in the game, but overall a good experience. I must restate that the art direction in the game is fantastic(it can never be stated enough). There is one particular thing(it goes hand in hand with art direction) in the game I love so much. However, I shall abstain from speaking of it due to spoilers. Such a shame.

Also, and perhaps more importantly, the game proves that the Wii, if used properly, is a great system for FPS games. Red Steel be damned--MP3 knows how to handle the system. Better than dual analog? For me, that issue is irrelevant: the game uses the tools avaliable and is a compelling experience witn non-intrusive, and interesting, controls.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just beat Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror for PSP.

Combine this game's kill.switch gameplay, great musical score, and perfect pacing with the story and characters of MGS:Portable Ops, and we'd have a near flawless game.

I don't understand the comments on the controls in most reviews. I thought they were perfect, and, although they forced you, they made the hiding for cover technique very important. As its impossible to fight w/out lock-on unless you have cover helping you aim.

I think this might be the best game I've played on PSP. Aside from the story and boss fights, I'd say its definitely better than MGS:PO

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Totally agree.

i ***loved*** Dark Mirror, and i'm not at all a fan of the previous SF games. Your comment about the controls is spot-on, as well. i thought the controls were damn near flawless, from what i remember... i have no idea what people were bitching about. i'm psyched for the sequel.

to keep it on-topic:

Finished Spartan: Total Warrior (XB):
Wow, what a superb action game. it's Dynasty Warriors with a brain for people (like me) who dislike DW. total thumbs up.

Finished Total Overdose (XB): a fun ride with a great sense of humor... recommended, especially since it's like $5.

Finally, just finished Doom 3 (XB): the graphics were amazing for the Xbox and i can honestly say that it wasn't nearly as intolerable as i thought it would be. it was definitely too long (it would have been better if it was cut down by at least 30%) and the monsters-in-closets stuff was crap, but it was a good update of an undeniable classic. i think my nostalgia was powering me along for part of the ride, though. ; )

(...and looking at my finished list here, can you tell my 360 hasn't been repaired yet?)

Bioshock, happy ending. I'll come back in a bit and do it again the other way.

Up next: Metroid Prime 3

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I finished Luminous Arc for the DS last night. It was a nice, scaled down SRPG - a welcome change from the over complicated norm - but by the time I reached somewhere around chapter 20, I found myself just rushing to wrap things up.

The story was overly predictable, and the main character was way too whiny about things. The ending was kinda lame, too. The gameplay, on the other hand, was expertly balanced! I only found myself level grinding in maybe one or two spots around the half way point. And at right about 25 hours for 25 chapters, I'd say the pacing was excellent as well.

Overall, I can't say I loved the game... but I definitely liked it! Maybe a good first SRPG for someone new to the genre!
