Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

probably been half year since i posted here

beat Devil May Cry 4 some days after buying it :d

had some really nice gameplay innovations like the exceed gauge combat system and the devil bringer
this is a game you can finish in probably 8 or less hours on easy, have a good time and never look back at it
or you can dig into the more complex gameplay mechanics and get really good at it (which gives you some sense of satisfaction -> check www.phantombabies.net for a gathering of likeminded freaks)

game was a little short but the extra difficulties with enemies and bosses using attacks not seen on easier difficulties is certainly gives you a good incentive to replay the game
also this way you get to play more with the weapons you hardly had chance playing with first time through (like lucifer & dark slayer style)

it's a bit a shallow story but it has a certain flair to it and like the ingame characters all the scenes are beautifully choreographed

only down for me is the too-happy-environment (the first level with fountains remind me very strongly of the first level's shown in Bayonetta btw)

all in all loved it (this is my kind of game)

still playing it (i'm one of these dmc hardcore fans )

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I just finished crysis (thank godddd). I loved the graphics. Im a major graphics whore lol. Amazing details and all the little touches. The atmosphere was great. In some ways the addition of the power suit gave the game a metal gear solid feel. Being able to sneak around and methodically take out the enemies.

However....there was something missing in that game. I cant put my finger on what it was. Perhaps the wishy washy story. Or the suspension level which reminded me all too much of that final halo level. Its almost like a written rule in gaming that they stick in one level to annoy the shit out of you lol

Btw..what is with EVERY action game having helicopter support for the main character, however the choppers cant PROVIDE support until you kill the enemies first? lol ffs How about an inbetween where you fight along side the chopper!

I ended up just running through the game and renewing the next target. Always a small trek further down the mountain etc.

Im not entirely sure what other people saw in this game...but im glad i got through it. The special effects were cool (although the rocket launcher explosions looked so cheap). My fav moment of the game was fighting that soldier with a rail gun and nano suit, sneaking up and strapping on some c4 Nice little touch how he looks down with this bomb strapped to him!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

What difficulty did you play it on?

I can't speak for anyone else, but what wow'd me about the game was the way they utterly nailed true sandbox gameplay while still preserving a sense of urgency and pacing. The story isn't going to win any awards, but I think it's told well and flows with the game really well. But I just love how various situations can be approached with an almost limitless variety of strategies. I've replayed both Crysis games countless times, and every time is different. I love messing around with suit powers and just screwing with the enemies. Sometimes, for example, I'll go cloaked and unarmed — I'll get close to an enemy, switch to strength, punch them dead or toss them into the sky, and immediately re-cloak. I've completed entire levels without firing a single shot, using the suit powers and environments to dispatch enemies. This of course includes using chickens as a weapon.

And if you haven't played it on Delta, it's pretty much like playing Halo on Legendary — it's the definitive Crysis experience.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Finished Portal: Still Alive on XBLA last night. I don't know how I did it (This game has been out for how long now?!) but the little plot twist at just over half way through caught me totally by surprise! As such, this game - which I expected to be nothing more than a novel tech demo featuring a 'neat gun' - turned out to be something more than I bargained for (in a good way, of course)!

I've yet to go in and check out the 'challenge maps', but as quickly as I finished the main game, you can bet I'll be back for more before long! That thing had me really thinking a time or two!

Next up, I'm thinking I'll download Braid and give it a go! Hooray for downloadable games!

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I just finished Killzone 2 last night. Overall its your average shooter. The only thing missing was an escort mission. I hate escort missions so its all good . How people were pinning such high hopes on this game I have no idea.

The ending was 'Well, whatever'. I think it has a message of a never ending fight (never ending sequels?). Though it shows that the opening scene with the fat man making a speech was CGI and not in game. It also seemed like the last scenes were not as polished as some other scenes. Almost like they either rushed to finish or learned some new tricks and the ending was one of the first scenes completed.

Not a horrible way to spend 7 hours, but not worth $60. Now on to Halo Wars, and soon Madworld.

I want to play Killzone 2 for the multiplayer. That is pretty much my attitude towards most FPS games. The single player games are all the same: plow through waves of enemies, then move on.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Geometry Wars Galaxies on Wii… or at least, I medaled on all the planets. I don't think you can actually really "finish" the game proper. I've got to say, it's actually one of the best titles on the system. I've always thought Geometry Wars was great, but the addition of an upgradable drone and several different galaxies with different types of levels to play through really felt fresh and interesting. Thumbs up.

Oh, two caveats:

1> the game is practically unplayable using the Wiimote. If you're going to get into it, the Classic controller is the only way to go. Two sticks FTW.

2> the final galaxy can only be unlocked by having the Wii communicate with a DS running the Galaxies cart… pretty cheeseball, IMO, but I already subscribe to GameFly so I was able to have them send it out to me, I unlocked that last bit, and sent it back two minutes later.

That stuff aside, it still gets my recommendation.

Just finished Lost Winds on the WiiWare. Really enjoyed the game. Not perfect, but very well done. It was worth the $10 price tag. Wouldn't mind seeing a follow up.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

finished the "Lara's Shadow" DLC for TR: U on 360... not really worth $10 but by far the best part of the entire TR: U experience.

may do a review.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I finished Chrono Trigger last night on the DS. This wasn't my first time playing this amazing game, but it was my first time finishing it! I really enjoyed the whole ride, and look forward to playing it again via 'New Game +' so I can tear up Lavos the very first time we meet (this playthrough, I stuck straight to the mainline and ended up getting the standard ending #1... kinda lackluster). My only beef with this having been on the DS was the split screen format - having to look away from the action while selecting commands for my companions - but I think I had a choice in that matter before I started playing the game... and I just chose wrong. Other than that, it really felt like I was just playing it on the SNES all over again. Very faithfully recreated!

Next in line on the DS is a little Ninja Town action. I don't know how that one's gonna go, but I'll be sure and let you guys know!

Just finished Gears of War 2 with the wife. I can't speak for the game as a single player experience, but in co-op it was a pretty fun ride. Nothing mindblowing and it certainly didn't push the envelope in any way, but it was about what I expected: pretty solid shooting action and enough big setpieces to keep things moving.

finished Mithra: the Calling on XBL Community games, and LOTR: Conquest on 360.

the first was good, the second... not so much.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Just finished Alone in the Dark: Inferno on PS3.

What an absolutely fantastic, blockbuster experience. A true creative masterpiece. I literally could not be more impressed with this game.

Oh sure, there are certainly flaws here and there and from all accounts the 360 version had some major issues, but the revamped PS3 Inferno iteration is sophisticated, legitimately mature, and quite innovative in terms of its use of physics and its design as a whole.

I'm sorely tempted to write a review on this version, but in the meantime, I give it my highest possible recommendation.

It's been quite some time since I played a game as enjoyable as this… if you've got a PS3, go out and get a copy right now. After all, the this game did so poorly at retail, there's virtually no chance of a sequel. I've heard that the design team was chewed up and spat out by the publisher, so this will likely be their only effort as a team.

God, what a waste.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I remember someone else on here talking up a storm about Inferno, and since then I've kept it on my radar, but your recommendation seals it Brad.

Hopefully I can get my hands on it before MGS4 arrives in the mail, or else I'll be too busy MGOin' for anything else.

Anyway I recently 100%'ed Sega Superstars Tennis's Superstar mode, so I guess that counts as beating. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but one thing that struck me here (and always strikes me with videogame tennis) is that they always have really counter-intuitive control schemes. It was fine when I got the hang of it, but up to that point it felt totally odd.

Anyway I recommend it for anyone who's into that kinda thing. It's cheap as dirt at least.
