The Dandy Warhols Come Down -- The Dandy Warhols

The first major label album by one of the most overlooked bands in the business. The album (and by extension, most of the band's body of work) is pretty diverse -- if you are a fan of music from the late 90's, do yourself a favor and check them out.

Dandy Warhols are pretty cool. I saw them in concert many years ago.

New Arcade Fire album is pretty good. Better than their last one.

Thao With The Get Down Stay Down

Unfortunately, it's a pretty lame video. Worst of all, you have to skip ahead to 0:39 to actually listen to the music. Still, it's a pretty neat band. This song is called Swimming Pools from their album We Brave Bee Stings and All.

Re: Suggest an album.

the chorus of that song is the most simple kindof arpeggiated synth chord change, but the lyrics just float over it like melted butter- love it

hows the album??

Two greats come together. John Legend & The Roots put together an entire album.

Re: Suggest an album.

I have to say, most of the music on this thread (I've read almost the whole thread, and listened to random youtube links that you guys have posted) goes way over my head. Some of it is interesting, though. Whilst my roots are in classic rock and heavy metal territory, I do like any atmospheric music.

What I'm listening to at the moment, for what it's worth, is:

Evile: Infected Nations
Bought it a few months ago at Sonisphere festival at one of the stands selling CDs, (Evile were also playing Sonisphere, they were great). Enjoying this album so far, but it's not a classic like their first album, Enter The Grave, was. Fast, brutal, brilliant thrash metal. Like Slayer, who I also adore, but much better in my opinion.

Lordi: Babez For Breakfast
Big Lordi fan, here. Shame the fuss about them died down quickly after winning the Eurovision song contest that year. I guess the metal fans who were fans of them before assumed they sold out (what a ridiculous thing to think, too...), and the new fans they gained were fickle. Babes For Breakfast, in short, is a good album, but not as good as Get Heavy, The Arockalypse, or (probably my favorite), Deadache. It's alright, though.

My alienation of most of you guys is complete

Re: Suggest an album.

Since one my favourite musicians is trying to go pop, after decades of avant-garde acid-jazz techno experimentalisms (?), I'll do my best to help him on his way.

It's space pop and it owes a lot to Daft Punk.

Re: Suggest an album.

Just add QZi5Y7KgzsQ between the YouTube tags. Happened to me too a few weeks ago.

John Legend showed up at work yesterday. It is pretty cool having him perform a few feet from me. I shot this with a point-and-shoot camera.

Welcome back ckz and welcome to the boards JLB1987.

JLB, I'll pass your recommendations to my brother. He is the big metal head.
I listened to a lot of metal in the 80s, but my taste changed when I was a teen more towards electronic, avant-guarde, soul, and indie rock. Nothing against metal. I still like old Megadeth a lot.

As far as the new Squarepusher goes. It sound good. I guess it is good that he is changing it up a bit. I need to hear to entire album to make judgment.

Re: Suggest an album.

The rest of the album sounds a lot like Megazine. Vocoders everywhere. It's less energetic and more down/mid-tempo than everything he has ever recorded. Apparently he will be playing with a band this time.

I missed you Ab, and Rob. I'll say nothing about the rest though. :P Where's Goatart? He used to be a good sport too.

Re: Suggest an album.

Thank you, abfackeln. On a slightly less metal note, in the past week I have also been listening to my all time favorite band, Boston. Recently aquired their fourth, and supposedly worst, album (presumably because it has a different singer on), and it's quickly becoming one of my favorites of theirs. Straight forward rock 'n' roll, but despite this, I love the music and the lyrics, which mostly consist of sugary sweet love ballads, and how awesome it is to rock out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sn9KRHK_JE

Also finally got myself a copy of Wish You Were Here by 'Floyd. My original CD had skipping issues during Have A Cigar, so I went and got a shiny new copy. Won't bother posting a link... it's an album everyone should have heard Greatly prefer it to Dark Side Of The Moon, which I regard as ever so slightly over-rated.
