New Review Posted: Rengoku

Brad Gallaway reviews Rengoku, and finds it thematically similar to another recently reviewed title:

"In my recent write up of the putrid NanoBreaker, my opening comment was that killing robots as an end unto itself is boring and a waste of time—unless there's a hook. I stand by that statement, but I think it's cosmically ironic that immediately after wrapping up a review for a terrible robot-killing game, I'm writing a review for a good one. I guess it just goes to show that in the right hands, even the most seemingly unappealing or dreary subject matter can shine."

He expands on that idea here.

Good review, I'll probably be picking the game up now at some point. The concept seemed cool from as soon as I heard of the game, but the horrible reviews from other publications scared me away. Good to see that the game has some merit.

good review brad. I was also scared away by the horrid reviews.. but I think I may pick up this game used, or if there is a price drop in the future.. It sounds like something I would enjoy.

Re: New Review Posted: Rengoku

Thanks for the words, folks.

I really liked the game a lot, and i couldn't put it down until i went through it twice, so i definitely think it has some merit. it helped that i'm a total Armored Core dude, though... it has the same sort of tinker-toy + fast action appeal, IMO.

i can understand how the game would score poorly with others, but the general numbers for it are horrifically low... i'd bet that hardly any of the reviewers got more than half an hour into the game, honestly.

anyway, if any of you pick it up, i'd love to see your thoughts on it, either here on the boards or as 2nd opinions.
