New Review Posted: Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

Mike Bracken reivews Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, and notices a trend in his reviews:

"I know, I know—I made a huge deal out of how tired I was of World War II games in my Call of Duty: Finest Hour review, yet here I am once again reviewing another World War II game. Am I a masochist? A glutton for punishment? The low man on the game reviewing totem pole who doesn't get to pick his assignments? Honestly, none of the above—but after hearing all the hype about Gearbox's Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 I let my morbid curiosity get the better of me. Good thing I did, too, because Brothers in Arms is one of the best World War II first-person shooters (FPS) that I've ever played. This is not to say that the game is without flaws—because it has a few that are fairly significant—but the game is so intriguing that it overcomes the majority of its shortcomings without annoying the player in the process."

The rest of the review is right over here.

Great review as always, Other Mike. I enjoyed this game for a while, but eventually it just made me want to play blow-crap-up shooters.

And I did play without the crosshairs, just because that seemed to be how they intended the game to be played. On one hand it added a realism factor, but on the other hand, what is realism good for in a freaking videogame?

I've been enjoying BiA as well - I was surprised that you didn't mention just how educational the game was.

I mean, I had no idea that the main advantage that US troops had over the Germans was that those krazy krauts never learned how to guard their flanks. Just think, if American troops had been able to climb over waist-high walls, or walk up slopes steeper than 30 degrees, they could have had the war won by late '43 at latest.

Seriously, though, I can't get enough of 'down the sights' gaming - I can't wait for Tom Clancy to make one.

You know, I had the path thing in my notes and just overlooked it while I was writing. I did find it hilarious that the key to all victories is flanking--but at least that's some sort of step foreward from all the games where you just charge the machine gun nest taking fire the whole way and manage to survive regardless.
