New Review Posted: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Tera Kirk reviews Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and describes its effect on the feline demographic:

"I have a one-eyed cat. Whenever I'd plug Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories into my Game Boy Player, he'd jump up on the television and watch me. As I hacked my way to the final boss, he rolled over and fell…right on the Reset button. I can't blame game developers for an "act of cat." But that act forced me to look at the problems in this new Kingdom Hearts—problems that I kept shoving out of my mind because the rest of the game was so much fun."

The rest of the review is available here.

Re: New Review Posted: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

Tera, you must be the sweetest woman. You always review such nice titles. I, on the other hand, must be the Darth Something-or-other of womankind, simply based on the majority of the games I play.

But honestly, I'm not all that bad. Just ask my shrink. No wait! How 'bout my parole officer? No, that won't do either. Umm.. surely there's someone you could ask. An appropriate person of the community is simply not coming to mind right at the moment. Guess I'll have to get back to you on that one.

In any case, you do lovely work; it's really too bad that generally I'm not interested in the types of games you critique. The last one, La Pucelle, was the closest. Unfortunately, I never "finished" Disgaea, though I thought it was fabulous. I just got sucked into item world, and by the time I got tired of the game I realized I hadn't gotten very far into the story. Right now, however, I'm working on Final Fantasy Tactics; I even have a thread going about it, so feel free to stop by.

Thanks for contributing. Even though we all may not comment on your comments, we read it and think about it anyway.

That's just what I *want* you to think. No one suspects my evil plan [insert psycho laugh here]

I honestly don't know why I haven't been able to get into darker games. God knows my movie collection can be used against me in a court of law. The first DVD I ever bought was William Lustig's "Maniac"; I adopted a friend's copy of "Legend of the Overfiend" because it was too disgusting for him, and I'm hoping against all hope that the $56 "Guinea Pig: Collector's Edition" box set I saw at Best Buy is still there when I get paid next. Of course, the other half of my movie collection is cartoons. (I am a *big* Spongebob fan).

My natural morbidity hasn't carried over to games, for some reason. Maybe I play a lot of stuff that reminds me of what I played when I was younger. Or maybe I was traumatized by "Resident Evil 2"s control scheme. ("Resident Evil 4" is *sweeeeeeet.* I still suck at it, but not near as hard).

I'm getting better...slowly. I was a classics major in college, and the recent couple of "mature" classics-themed games have lured me to the dark side. I'm playing "God of War" right now. And though we won't get into my patheticness (you don't want to know how long it took me to beat that stupid Hydra), I'm liking it so far.

Okay, so that's way more about me than you ever wanted to know...and most of it, you probably wish you could forget. But, no, I'm not as innocent as I look.

Tera

Nah, definitely not TMI. If you've perused these threads at all, I'm sure you (and the rest here) know /far/ more about me than most other people on the planet do.

It /is/ heart-warming to know that you're not all fluffy bunnies (no offense to bass). People like that actually scare me. If it makes /you/ feel any better (and if you care), it's not as if I'm all dark and dismal, either. (Although my first, and so far only "anime" dvd -- I'm not even sure if it qualifies as such -- is the "Gregory Horror Show," so go figure.) I do have brief moments where I show my soft underbelly. *shhh* Like, my favorite, and only Walt Disney dvd (other than those inherited) is "Mary Poppins." I just love that one. Hrmm. I know I have other moments too, I just can't think of any right now. Oh, I know. I /love/ old Warner Bros. cartoons. I'm sure that has to count for something. Aha! Here's the kicker: I friggin' /love/ four-leggers! I currently have two cats, Ellie and Gaby. In most cases I think animals surpass humans on many levels.

Alright, I have to stop now. I'm beginning to sound like this is an interview or something. Be well.

Iteresting writeup Brad. I've heard almost entirely negative things about the game thus far. That coupled with my prejudice against anything directed by Tetsuya Nomura pretty much sealed this game's fate with me, but your review has tempted me to give it a second look.

I really enjoyed CoM. Definitely much more so than its predecessor! I didn't finish KoH, I disliked it so much, but I felt I was just fine playing CoM anyway.

Just my $0.02.

Re: New Review Posted: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

You know, I had heard mostly negative things about it also. I never would have picked it up unless I was dying for something to play, but I'm really glad that I did. I didn't go into it with any expectations, and I really liked a lot... it's pretty rare that I take the time to ever do any "second quest", and even more seldom that i actually enjoy doing it. As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I went ahead and did the main review for Kingdom Hearts 2... I just wrapped it up yesterday. Expect another positive one, and it's a big bonus in my book that KH:CoM and KH2 are directly related in a very substantial way. Go figure.

oh, and... BIONIC COMMANDO AVATAR!!! = )
