New Review Posted: Terrorist Takedown

I cap off our shooting-intesive week with Terrorist Takedown, and wax nostalgic:

"Very few things bring a smile to my face more than a good rail shooter. Perhaps it's the simplicity and familiarity of them I respond to. No matter the setting, no matter the interface device, they're all basically the exact same game. The screen shifts around, looking at the scenery, an enemy pops up, and the player shoots them. Some people have comfort foods, tastes that relax them and make them feel at home. Rail shooters are my comfort games—they don't have to try very hard to make me like them.. Give me a chance to kick back and relax by blasting a few dozen (or hundred) enemies at the end of a long day, and I'm happy. If the game happens to do something a little new, different or compelling with the genre, well that's just gravy. Terrorist Takedown offers a surprising amount of gravy for a budget title."

The rest of the review is available here.

Re: New Review Posted: Terrorist Takedown

Cool beans.

You know, I've run into a good number of budget titles lately. Outlaw Golf 2, Future Tactics: The Uprising, Katamary Damashii (I've heard it's good from you all), and of course, Sega's now defunct ESPN sport series.

Do you think we'll continue to see at least decent budget titles, or do you think this period is simply a fluke? Considering some are speculating the price of A-List titles will rise with the next generation of consoles, I agree with.. Doug was it? who said pricing will most likely be in a range from $20 to $60 (and perhaps more). I think it's a fair-enough prediction.

In any event, I do hope some good budget titles continue to get released; I suppose it helps ensure smaller dev groups and publishing houses will continue to hang out and "take chances" on occasion.

Re: New Review Posted: Terrorist Takedown

You know what, this review really surprised me. I didn't know squat about the game aside from the snippet in this thread, but from the title alone, I was expecting the reviewer to wander off course and talk more about the game's name and current events than the game itself. I was also expecting its name to be held against it and for the game to receive a score that may have been too harsh.

And for that, I apologize.

This was a really well-written review for a game that the majority of us would likely walk right by in the store. Not only did the reviewer give a good sense of what the gameplay is like, but when he did bring the game's unfortunate title into question, it was in a manner that was entirely justified. I also really liked the seque into the closing paragraph with maintaining the title/boxart theme and summarizing with the statement about the game actually being pretty good.

I can't say whether or not I agree with the review since I haven't played the game. But for some reason, this review just strikes me as being especially fair. Good job, Gamecritics.

EDIT: That last comment wasn't too imply that I don't think the other reviews on this site are fair, just that this one seemed "especially" fair.
