New Review Posted: Ghost Recon 2

Mike Bracken takes a foray into the world of Tom Clancy and it doesn't start well:

"I gotta tell ya, I'm a little tired of seeing Tom Clancy's name on a new game seemingly every week. I mean, the guy's become so synonymous with videogames that an entire generation only knows of him because his name is plastered all over titles like Splinter Cell, Rainbow 6, and Ghost Recon. In fact, my 12-year-old stepson recently asked me if Tom Clancy was a big game developer. After I laughed heartily and explained who he really was, it hit me that the question wasn't really a bad one. I couldn't tell you the name of the last book Clancy wrote, but I can tell you the last game they released with his name on it because it's advertised on TV about three times every half hour. Some days, it seems gaming is an industry run almost entirely by EA and Clancy; they're ever-present entities on the cultural landscape."

He goes on to talk about Ghost Recon 2 here.

Good review for a good game.

I absolutely loved the future force gear. The whole could have been just that for all I care. The urban level when you first use it is freakin' incredible. It makes you feel like a one-man army when you score a lot of kills, and the tension is sweat-inducing at times.

Re: New Review Posted: Ghost Recon 2

Good review, Mike B., as always!

Actually, I had been considering this one, but then Mike D. said that GR2 made RS: BA look like a cakewalk. (Woefully, I must admit that I got so frustrated with the latter title that I restarted on "easy" mode. ) Which reminds me, I know Bracken is a Renaissance gamer, but howcome Doolittle didn't do this one? I've not seen his name on a review in a while.

Anyway, thanks again.

Re: New Review Posted: Ghost Recon 2

I think it would be worthwhile to remove the designation "Platform < PS2/Xbox >" from the top of this review, opting instead for just "Platform < Xbox >". As noted in the Consumer Advice, the PS2 game is both a different game and an inferior one to boot. As the possibility for confusion is, I believe, higher than usual (see here for why) putting PS2 (and listing it before Xbox) at the top of the page and the note about PS2 version buried in the Consumer Advice seems less than illuminating.

In short, Ghost Recon 2 for Xbox is a completely different game from Ghost Recon 2 for PS2 and the review's categorization could make this more clear by saying just "Xbox".

  • I don't think Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2 is better, but the two games have a lot of good things in common. Deaf and Hard of Hearing gamers will be pleased to know that there is an option for subtitles.
I am a deaf gamer and I have played this game and there is no subtitles on XBOX version (UK PAL) So did you make a mistake ?

On the US release, there is an option for subtitles. I know the TV show story interludes were subtitled, but I don't remember if there were actually subs during the missions or not.
