New Review Posted: Burnout 3: Takedown

Scott Jones eviews Burnout 3: Takedown, and tells us information with us that might be shared with his GP:

"Racing games, more so than any other genre, have the power to physiologically transform me. My hands sweat. My heart rate doubles. My body temperature rises. I can actually feel adrenaline bubbling like soda water in my veins. Indeed, a well-crafted racing game can make me feel, even as I sit idly in front of my TV set, wholly alive. And no racing game made me feel more alive this year than Burnout 3: Takedown did. It's as if EA took Acclaim's competent Burnout franchise and fed it a steady diet of meat, potatoes, and steroids for the past two years. The result: one of the fastest, most gratifyingly visceral racing games I've ever experienced."

Burnout 3: Takedown Reaction #1: Drool.
Burnout 3: Takedown Reaction #2: Jump off of the couch cursing, yelling, having heart attacks, and having people look at me strangely because of how I'm jumping all over the room like a freaking monkey because this game is sooo awesome.

I don't know if a 9.0 is what I would call a high enough score considering how great this game is, but... I won't argue.

Read the review and thought is was pretty good. So, when is GameCritics going to get to the Out Run 2 review?

Re: New Review Posted: Burnout 3: Takedown

I think a 9.0 is a perfectly fine score.

I still do believe that Burnout 3 is arguably the best arcade racing game ever, but I do also believe very strongly that the game outstays its welcome, gets repetitive, and while I'm glad to see that EA has finally joined the Xbox Live community, they have a lot of work to do on that front.

The game is very, very, very good but does not offer enough variety given its size. And a main reason for this is that almost every car class feels and acts just like the car class immediately above and below it. If you jump around from the first class to the fourth, you'll notice a difference, but is there a significant difference between the 2nd car class compared to the 1st or 3rd? Nope. And therein lies the problem--unlocking new cars and classes is a ho-hum affair.

Re: New Review Posted: Burnout 3: Takedown

Andrew Fletcher takes a second look at Burnout 3, and posits a hypothetical:

"Scenario 1: You've taken out the race leaders and now you're speeding down a lush seaside highway in first place, weaving in and out of the oncoming traffic, gaining boost from every car you pass (and so nearly clip) while the blaring radio fuels your speed addiction and helps widen the already broad smile on your face and moisten the maniacal glaze in your unblinking eyes. It's the full-on Burnout 3 experience: an exhilarating, gleeful gaming moment."

While the fanboy within hates seeing one of my top games get a lower score () I must admit you make a strong, cogent case for your evaluation of the game. Great review!
