New Review Posted: Astroboy

Andrew Fletcher reviews Astroboy and notices:

"Soon after turning the power on, I'm bombarded by trademarks. Licensed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Consumer Products. Sony Pictures Television. Tezuka Productions. Presented by SEGA. Created by Hitmaker. In cooperation with Treasure Video Games. Now, as a critic, it's sometimes difficult to ascertain precisely who is responsible for the quality (or otherwise) of a videogame, and it's often irrelevant anyway. However, one of the keys to appreciating this title is to recognise that it is really Treasure's baby, and once the company logos have faded and the game begins, it's their trademarks that loom the strongest: namely, tight controls, big boss set-pieces, score multipliers and plenty of lovely slowdown. As far as gameplay is concerned, Treasure copyrighted Astro Boy a long time ago."

Another thing that's tough for a critic to do is to review a game that they complete within a single evening's play.

I would think it to be easier than having to summarize a trudging 80 hour epic. It works for film reviewers, it seems.

Anyway, the review is alright, but there's one correction I would like to make. The proper title is Astro Boy: The Omega Factor, and that was not mentioned complete anywhere in the review. When I first clicked this thread, I thought the review was of the lesser PS2 game.

I was actually kind of disappointed it was a review of the GBA game. I've already heard how good that game is quite a bit. The review itself was good, as is usually the case with Gamecritics, but I was hoping to see something about the less talked about PS2 game.

My review of the PS2 game: It sucks.

Really though, the PS2 version is pretty blah. I only spent a tiny amount of time with it (thank god I didn't buy it...) and that was more than enough to see just how un-fun it was.

Sonic Team has really lost it...
