Yes and no. If I recall correctly Lemmings was all about guiding the green fellas to a certain place, all while preventing their deaths. You had a set of tools, and molded their path with them.
In Pikmin, the approach is more puzzle-like. You breed armies of cute little Pikmin to help you in some tasks. They can range from defeating a monster, extending or constructing bridges or pathways and carrying stuff back to your spaceship. Different kinds of Pikmin with different abilities and weaknesses offers more depth to the game, and combinations of these elements make for some clever obstacles you need to overcome. But the objectives are are exterior to the Pikmin themselves, and so they play a more instrumental role than Lemmings.
You can get the first Pikmin for cheap nowadays. It's a great buy, not very long (you can squeeze it into your gaming schedule, no sweat

) and a delightful title on its own. One of the better games for the GCN, that's for sure.
By the way, splendid review, Mr.Rosai. Good job explaining all the new features and how they fared against the previous title. To be honest, I'm rather glad they did away with the time limit. I wanted to raise many more Pikmin in the first title to make up for the little ones who fell in battle, and this way the game can allow for some more exploration. This is a plus, since the action is set in a puzzling world with some amusing creatures, and I would like to see it all.
