Good feature, but I suggest a title change. because I clicked on it, "I dunno, am I game for sex?" And it turned out to be a goddamn video game feature. Oh well, maybe next time.

But I have to say, it's a nice article on North America's biggest video gaming taboo. Lord only knows just how many chapters of "Game for Sex" if GC had wider coverage of the Japanese gaming market.

didn't stormlord for the genesis have naked faieries in it that 'healed' the character?
i think it was the first mass-marketed[two page spreads in EGM some 12 plus years ago]game to have nudity in it. just wondering if anybody can back this up.

I think two games that should be mentioned are:
1) GTA 3 & Vice city
Reason: You pick up a hooker in your car, and it shakes, followed by hilarious dialog. You emerge with above normal health.
2) BMX XXX
Reason: It's a sick, twisted game, where female bikers are topless. Need i say more?

GTA3 was just so obvious that I didn't want to include it in the inagural feature. We'll put it in there at some point I'm sure. BMX XXX doesn't count actually because that's just nudity. We are talking about full on sex here. Same goes for that Stormlord game which was actually edited I think.

A game that should be mentioned (although many wouldnt' call it a game) is second life. In second life, user created content has changed the environment into the most kinky polygonal place i have ever witnessed. Second life has a a huge sm community and also a huge gay community. And from what i've seen anything is possible. Orgies between large numbers of peoples are all over the game in the mature areas. Slave auctions and naked parties are being organised on at least a weekly basis, but theres a mature events every night. Aside from that, the user created content has allowed users to create the whole spectrum of sm toys, strap on dildo's and such. Scripting has allowed many positions of the kama sutra to be possible and the avatars even move and male avatar penises cum. And yes, even watersports is possible (and no doubt being done) as genitals can also pee in the game.

Of course it depends on wether you see second life as a game or a 3d chatroom. If you consider it a game, then it should be in a future iteration since truly every perverse act you can imagine is being done on a massive level in second life.

Good points Chi. I think that another game is Lupin the Third. I think that has sex in it. I may be wrong (I've never played the game) but i saw a clip of him looking into the girl shower. They all had towels on though. Damn ESRB.

On the site are no pictures of actual sex, as second life doesn't really advertises it. But i can easily provide you with screens as i know a couple of people that still play regularly and errr have a lot of sex. It will take me some days but i would be glad to help out.

Second Life is an extremely tough call. There's games in the actual virtual world. I'm surprised I never heard too much about this. I need to do more research. Thanks for bringing this up.

Also, if anyone could help out with details on Phantasmagoria, Gabriel Knight, Custard's Revenge, Star Control 2, and old text games, let me know.

As far as I know, Gabriel Knight doesn't go much further than risque flirting and some other verbal references. There are a few scenes that show a couple leaving together and then not returning until morning, so stuff is most likely going on behind the scenes, but I don't remember anything ever being shown (though it has been a couple years, and I never played the third game). Oh, and while the first game did feature some nudity, it was as part of a tribal dance and not as part of or as a prelude to a sex-scene..

A game you might want to look into if you're looking for examples is Omikron: The Nomad Soul for the PC and, I think, the DreamCast. It's a mostly-adventure game set in a dark futuristic world that features a disturbingly high number of sex shops and (really blocky 3d) strip clubs and similar places, all of which you can spend your money at, though doing so doesn't help with your quest (except for a pornographic magazine you can use as an item in a subquest). The premise of the game is that you are a disembodied soul that can jump from host to host, posessessing various characters throughout the gameworld either at will or when your current host is killed. There's a scene really early on that lets you sleep with a guy's wife, and doing so actually triggers an extra dream/story sequence.

I remember eventually selling the game out of embarassment even though I had found it to be intriguing and wanted to see how things progressed because a friend of mine kept making fun at the shear ridiculousness of the sexual aspects.. and yeah, they are all really poorly done, though I think they're included primarily to add to the game's dark atmosphere and not to add sex-appeal. Except for the 'David Bowie in speedo' scenes... those are there to be hot.

Well I've only played the third game, and from what you say it goes farther then the first two. Theres a pair of obvious lesbians (you don't see anything tho, and trust me its a good thing) and as far as redevous go theres no nudity but it does show more.

Although not necessary, I think its good for the story.

Hopefully in time for the next volume. Theres a lot of sex in second life, more than in other games, simply because its a 18+ game with freedom to script everything from a cumshot to moving whips. Aside from that sexual themed events are organised every day.
Theres also sex in There.com, although that sex is a lot less, and basically the nude patch is needed to make it look convincing. Of course the love houses of the sims online with their underage prostitutes are well known. But from what i heard theres "slave actions" and cyber prostitution in star wars galaxies and everquest too. In Final Fantasy i have heard one girl so far shout in an AH that she will offer anything, anything at all to the person who would give her some gil. She also mentioned she had no taboos. Not sure how far she would actually go, but the point is that in massive multiplayer online games apparently the people themselves create the sexual environment, as the corporations are too chicken to delve into this market.
