New Review Posted: Chromehounds

Finally, Brad reviews Chromehounds and finds it to be a refreshingly realistic experience. You know, for a game about gian robots.

"Chromehounds is an unusual entry to the "big robot" genre. Rather than being fast, flashy, or even very stylish, it's about teamwork. For once, the idea of victory for one man against an army is disregarded in favor of a humbler, more cooperative approach to futuristic mechanized warfare. Forget Voltron or any of those anime images exploding with speed lines, Chromehounds is more like enlisting in the military than becoming a rocket-boosted knight in hydraulic armor."

Re: New Review Posted: Chromehounds

Just wanted to say that this is a very good review. Too often we read reviews in which the critic has trouble getting past his/her own personal problem with the game (or unfamiliarity with the genre) and fails to see that there is a lot of quality and substance on the other side of their hurdle. We see this in sports games, racing games, and especially online games such as this one.

This is not one of those times. Brad succeeds in making his case against why HE couldn't enjoy the multiplayer component of the game on a personal level (mostly due to logistics), he does a great job in understanding that that problem is not to be blamed on the game. And he goes ahead and, IMO, continues to place the correct caveats in the text and score the game (what seemed to me) very fairly.

Good for you, Brad. This sets a good example!

Re: New Review Posted: Chromehounds

Thanks for the props, Enduro...

This was a really hard game to tackle since it's clear that so much of the focus is on creating a new kind of experience only possible through the online structures that are coming more and more to the forefront of design.

I was hoping that i'd convey my personal thoughts while still giving the game its due.... i really did enjoy it quite a bit, and i'd like to see more of it. Glad to hear that you thought i was successful with a review that could have gone south in a really big way.

(can i remove this big target from my chest now?)

^_^
