New Review Posted: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

Andrew Fletcher reviews Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, and thinks that it does a fantastic job:

"Can you feel that cool ocean breeze whipping through your hair? The surf splashing against your brow? That tanned hand creeping onto your thigh from the passenger seat? "I want to go far away!" she breathes into your ear. You may be sitting dry-eyed in front of the TV with the curtains drawn, but your mind is speeding along those perfect, curvaceous highways, bracing itself for those heart-in-mouth power slides and weaving through traffic at virtual right angles as it nails them. No doubt about it, OutRun is one of the highest peaks of videogame driving fantasy."

Just how good is it? Find out here.

Good review. Any word on whether this will be an X360 title?

And as for the unlockables, with regards to the ones that you need to connect a PS2 and PSP together, are they even on the Xbox version? Or are they super-duper bonus ones?

Well, the bad news is that I can't say if the PSP-PS2 link unlockables are available on the Xbox version because I haven't tested the latter. My instinct assumes they would be because the link-up unlocks are no different from the other unlockables in the game (and therefore don't feel like super-duper bonuses). But I couldn't say for certain, sorry.

But I wouldn't consider it a deal-breaker because the bad news is that the unlocks are not very interesting anyway; unless you are a super-duper completist, of course.

On the other hand, the bad news is that the Xbox version apparently does not work on Xbox 360 and I've not heard of a 360 version yet.

Having said that, the bad news is that you will need to upgrade your PSP firmware to at least version 2.6 to play the game on Sony's handheld.

The good news? Power slides are fuuuun!

Erm, that's not much in the way of good news...

Re: New Review Posted: Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

I'm already at firmware 2.6 so that's not a biggie for me (I don't do homebrew and updated it at E3 to get the downloadable demo of Loco Roco -- one of the best games of E3).

Hmmm... I may get the PSP version for the upcoming flight to Europe, but I don't know. Too bad about the BC-issues regarding play on the X360. I'd really like to see a version updated for X360, but that's probably not going to happen.

Oh well, thanks anyway.
