New Review Posted: Ratchet: Deadlocked

Brad Gallaway takes a look at Ratchet: Deadlocked, and offers this theory:

"Insomniac Studios has done an excellent job over the last few years with the Ratchet & Clank series. Not only did they create a fantastic must-play franchise out of what could have been a boring me-too character game, they've topped themselves with each sequel. Keeping that same high level of quality going couldn't have been easy, and my hat is off to them for what they've accomplished. In fact, I almost feel guilty for writing this review. But, even the mightiest developer needs to slow down from the breakneck pace of game making once in awhile, and that's basically what I see Ratchet: Deadlocked as—Insomniac taking a break."

He then proves his thesis here.

Re: New Review Posted: Ratchet: Deadlocked

Good review Brad, I agree with you that Deadlocked was pretty medicore and felt like Isomniac didn't really put all that much effort into the game. I played it for a few hours and then immediately traded it for a copy of Shadow of the Colossus.

I was wondering what you thought of the online play options. I don't have a network adapter, but I did play online for a couple hours on a friend's PS2. I thought it was okay, nothing special, but if I had a network adapter, it would have made the game more enjoyable.

Re: New Review Posted: Ratchet: Deadlocked

Thanks for the words, Peg.

i don't go online with any systems right now, but once i land a 360 i will be taking the leap and getting everything hooked up. i barely have time for home consoles right now (most of my gaming has been DS or PSP lately) so it didn't seem worth it to go through the hassle for something i'm not going use at the moment.

...although now that i think about it, i did use the PSP to go online with Infected and PQ, and one other game that escapes me at the moment. it helped that the PSP was ready to go online out of the box.

i did play the couch co-op mode in Deadlocked and did some 2P that way, though.. it didn't make anything more interesting or enjoyable. if anything, the game just felt more generic.
