New Review Posted: Kameo: Elements of Power
Mike Bracken puts another dent into the Xbox 360 launch lineup, this time taking a look at Kameo: Elements of Power:
"Before I sat down to write this review, I spent some time thinking about Kameo and what I wanted to say about it. I came to one conclusion right off the bat—but it was something I didn't want to say: I didn't want to make a big deal out of just how long this game has been in development. I swear that every review I've read or heard of the game makes some point about how long this game was in coming out, how many platforms it was supposed to be on, and how Rare is now a shadow of its former self. I didn't want to dwell on any of this…but I was being naïve, I think. It's all but impossible to look at Kameo as a finished product and not consider the long and winding road it followed to its Xbox 360 release. I mean, let's face it—this is the Duke Nukem Forever of console games. Anyone who thinks that the long development cycle (and the switch from multiple platforms) didn't impact the final product is kidding themselves."
So what did he really think about the game? Find out here.

Is the front page being updated as we speak? New review pictures, but old review text.

Thanks for the kind words--I generally assume if no one flames the hell out of me, the reviews are okay. It's always nice to hear someone actually say they've enjoyed them, though.

Re: New Review Posted: Kameo: Elements of Power
So, how long was this game in development? Or perhaps a link to it's history...

I'll second that then, and say that I too really enjoyed your latest reviews, though I preferred your Perfect Dark one. It's wonderful to hear you ranting (the "locktopus" hahahahahahahahahaha ) and it was a shame that there wasn't as much of it in here. Besides last time it set off a quintuple fight involving me, littledoc, bassbeast, nicato and enduro, which is the reason most people come to the internet anyway, so you should do more of that.

Oh, honey.
You know one of the things I love most about your reviews? The emotion I feel pouring out of them. When you're happy, I'm happy; and when you're sad, so am I.
More than anything, I'm utterly crushed for you that these titles that come out hurt you so much. This is just one among others that have simply let you down. Stella Deus, Fallout: BoS, and King Kong leap to mind.
Oh. And I also love your wit.
So chin up, and never stop writing the way you do.

Okay, but wake me up when you guys have a positive Xbox 360 review...
But seriously, is it me, or is Kameo one of the most polarizing games released in recent history. You either love it or hate it. Wow.

I suspect that'll be sometime after Morrowind finally comes out next week.
I am playing DoA4 and like it despite some big problems (the final boss in single player is so fucking cheap).

Re: New Review Posted: Kameo: Elements of Power
Brad has some slightly kinder comments to offer about Kameo:
"Although Kameo: Elements of Power has definitely had a rough ride making it to retail, I'm going to chime in and say that Mike's being a little bit too hard on it. It's clear that the title has some issues, but there's a lot to like and this colorful fantasy adventure serves as a nice respite from the 360's too-serious library. As Mike says, it probably won't be remembered in 10 years, but Kameo occupies a niche that will likely go underrepresented on Microsoft's new machine."
See, that was nicer, wasn't it?
