New Review Posted: Rainbow Six: Lockdown

Mike Doolittle reviews Rainbow Six: Lockdown, and finds that he isn't much of a fan:

"I could never really get into the original Rainbow Six games for the PC. I was always a fan of first-person shooters, and but as intriguing as the realistic, tactical approach was, the games' slow pacing (to be more "realistic" of course) and emphasis on pre-mission planning was a little overwhelming—although indeed that complexity was part of the appeal for many of the series' early fans. When the series got a big overhaul with Rainbow Six 3 for the Xbox, I finally enjoyed it—a lot. The pre-mission planning was scrapped and the action was more fluid; the squad tactics were easy to use thanks to an exceptionally well-designed interface, and the gameplay had a punch to it that the previous incarnations had been sorely lacking."

The rest of the review (the negative part) can be found here.

Oh man. That's truly sad news. I really enjoyed the Rainbow Six series on Xbox. (I'm like you, though, I never cared for it on the pc -- too convoluted or something, but I did like having two squads and going back and forth b/t them.)

Do you think there's any hope the series'll get back on track?

A sequel is in the works already, and supposedly it'll be going back to the series' one-shot-kill roots a bit. In fact I think they may even be bringing back pre-mission planning.

Although if they don't put the squad interface back the way it was, it's all for naught as far as I'm concerned.
