New Review Posted: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Summit Strike

Mike Doolittle plays Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Summit Strike, and thinks:

"I have yet to play a videogame that makes me jump the way Ghost Recon does when I hear the "thuck!" of a bullet hitting my on-screen commando, leaving him gasping for air as he shouts to his comrades, "I've taken a hit!" That is, of course, if he's lucky enough to take the hit on his body armor. More times than I'd like to admit, I've gotten careless and before I know it—pop!—a sudden shot to the head and it's game over."

He discusses some other challenges of playing it here.

Re: New Review Posted: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Summit Strike

I was just talking about you.

The last Rainbow Six title I played was Black Arrow. I've never tried a .. I take that back I tried a Ghost Recon title a long time ago, and the controls were so cumbersome that I gave up.

Have the controls changed significantly? Are they similar to the "more recent" RS, e.g. BA-type titles?

Oh, and you always give good reviews -- telling me precisely what I need to know. (I didn't pick-up HL2 based on your assessment, and I'm glad I didn't. )

The controls are a lot different than the original Ghost Recon, yes. They're similar to Black Arrow in terms of the interface and whatnot, but the commands are different and overall a little more in-depth. It's things like hold fire, flank, supress, advance, hold position, and tons of contextual commands like "attack vehicle" and "use turret."

It's still a much less forgiving game than Rainbow Six has become though. Maybe three hits before you're toast, depending on where they are. Even on normal there are plenty of one-hit deaths. Although that is actually something I really like about the game.

Well gee thanks! HL2 is a fantastic game, so I hope you at least gave it a rental. And Summit Strike... well, it's just awesome.

You're welcome!

Alas, no. I don't do rentals for one, and two, I used to be solely a PC player -- a PC snob, if you will. So frankly, I didn't even want to see HL2 on the ole' 'box after your assessment. I'll just keep the the fps, etc. that work well (or better) on it like Riddick (which I /loved/ and bought solely on your review alone ). Soon it will be Summit Strike, just like BA and others before and after it.
