New Review Posted: Genji: Dawn of the Samurai

Mike Bracken reviews Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, and finds it an intriguing mix of peanut butter and chocolate:

"Odds are, if you could suck the DNA out of an Onimusha game and splice it with the genetic code you lifted from Sega's Shinobi, the resultant offspring would look a lot like Genji: Dawn of the Samurai. Yet, in the same way that two average human beings can combine to create a Tiger Woods or Mario Lemieux, Genji takes the gifts of both parents and turns them into something transcendent—something that resembles its parents, but exceeds them in a lot of really important ways."

The rest of the review is here.

I'm in complete agreement with the review. It's an excellent game that isn't anything special really, but really reminds me of old-school 16-bit, where there's just good action, cool visuals and awesome presentation.

Re: New Review Posted: Genji: Dawn of the Samurai

I beat Genji a week or so ago and just finished playing through it again and completing the weapon list. Mike's review is right on. Genji is a soild action game with a good story and excellent visuals. I wasn't quite as taken by the CGI scenes, maybe I'm spoiled by Square Enix and various Xbox games, but I thought graphically they were above average. But they are very well directed and do tell the story well. It is too short and too easy, but for the $10 price tage it goes for, it is a worthy pick up.

It does make me intrigued for Genji 2. From my understanding, Genji was the developer's first effort. Hopefully, they will realize Genji had the potential to be a great game, it just had a few minor flaws which held it back.
