Ok, the savegames seem to be there... but the game just doesn't recognize them anymore...

Hmm, that Walking Dead save corruption bug doesn't bode well for me ever trying it out again. I guess if you are forewarned you can probably take steps.

Finished Dishonored. Mixed feelings. It was a wonderfully realised world, and it's magic plus stealth gameplay was smooth and kept your interest. They did a great job.

It's not the pure super brilliant awesome game that most reviewers had it down as, I don't think. Not for me, anyway. However it is different and new, and I'm glad it is out there getting a lot of love.

Arkham City GOTY edition.

Completed the main story mode. Mixed feelings overall. A bit short, and as interesting as it is playing as Catwoman, her sections don't really add anything to the game. The story itself is predictable (I worked out what Protocol 10 was almost as soon as it was mentioned), and the ending was a little rushed. The gameplay itself really shines despite my criticism of the story. It achieves the feeling of actually making you feel like Batman. Definitely a step up from Asylum. Looking forward to playing Harley Quinn's Revenge tonight.

Just finished Dishonored at "low chaos". Similar thoughts as Pedro expresses above. Good game but for sure not the solid gold some reviews made it sound like. For a follow up I'd just like to see more interesting characters, not only interesting architecture. Nice looking buildings can only bring your story so far.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

Well, Harley Quinn's Revenge was a load of shit. Great playing as "The Boy Wonder", and the relationship between Batman and Robin seems more "Frank Miller" than golden age Batman (in that Batman patronises Robin, rather than shares a bed with him and giving him ice cream), but it was stupidly short. It doesn't take away the goodness of the core gameplay, but this DLC was one of the main reasons I waited for this GOTY edition. It's still tremendous value, but my expectations were much higher.

Datura (PSN)

Quote:
Unlike most games that offer morality choices, the decisions you make in Datura affect more than just how the hero solves the game’s ultimate problem, or how you end up treating other characters in canned dialogue sequences. Instead, the moral choices you make in Datura force you to take a look at yourself in the mirror and really confront what you see there.
It says something that I did not even realise I was making decisions or moral choices until after I fnished the game and read this review.

Pros: Intriguing, Short (90 mins), cheap (3.99)
Cons: Absolutely no idea what that was all about.

The Dualshock motion controller must be the worst fucking means of controlling anything ever invented. Rage.

The Walking Dead Episode 2

Aaaannnnddd..I don't know if I'll continue with this (even if the game itself will let me). It's a decent story with good characters and tough choices, but it is completely let down by the fiddliness of the UI when it comes to making those choices. A combination of hunt-the-pixel and QTEs? Nice.

Two bits stand out from that episode - trying to disarm a guy meant clicking on his gun twice - once on the barrell, and the second time...high on his right shoulder. All timed so you'd get shot if you failed. Which I did, repeatedly.

Second bit - almost breaking my wrist with an extended Quick Time Event (hammer 'E') until I figured out that I was supposed to fail it.

Finally, tried to start Ep 3 and found the game a) sometimes doesn't recognise my save, thinking I'm back in Episode 1, b) thinks I haven't installed any episode after episode 2 (episode 3 coming soon!), c) lets me start epidode 3 one in three attempts but I don't know if my decisions have been saved. Only the ep1 decisions show up.

I was also getting rough pop-in and technical issues like teleporting dudes, which I wouldn't have expected from something like this.

There's a good story (if not necessarily a game) in there somewhere, but PC owners beware.

I thought I'd avoid it if I downloaded all 5 episodes before proceeding, as I saw something where saves were deleted by installing future episodes, but it was not to be.

You are absolutely correct when you say that the game is good but not good enough to merit the technical grief it causes.

Hitman Absolution

Oh man, what shall I say about this? I was writing a lengthy post about it in another thread, so I'm not going to repeat myself. It has some really cool bits, but also some absolutely horrible parts. I found myself thrilled stalking my prey through crowds in chinatown, but also bored to tears by a QTE-boss-battle that even a 2nd rate God of War-clone would be ashamed of. For people interested or fans of hitman I'd say rather play Blood Money (again) and pick up Absolution once it's on sale.

Limbo (free on PS+ in Europe)

Wow, what a game. The last third was fiendishly difficult though, with reaction time plus puzzling coming into play at different times. I used a walkthrough for most of it.

The first half of the game is great, with an eerie atmosphere and charming and chilling enemies.

The ending is terrible, as usual. What is it with videogames? I don't know how many endings I have seen now, and I can count the satisfying ones on one hand.

Far Cry 3

What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Yes, I am squirming. It's a huge disappointment after #2. On the positive side, they've created a huge, living world. The problem was, they then had to fill that world with stuff to do. Cue eleven thousand repetetive racing games, hunting, climbing towers, assassinating people with knives, clearing outposts etc.

It's all horribly compulsive. In fact I spent 90 mins after I'd finished the game getting a final silver trophy...horrible (but what can I do?).

So I am torn - the shooting is good, the stealth decent, the climbing and sliding is good, most of your progress through the absolutely amazing world (how did they put this on console?) is pretty smooth.

The main campaign, however, is possibly the worst FPS main campaign I have played - it's just a grim succession of fetch quests, hold-enemy-off-while-I-repair-this-thing, and escort missions. And QTEs. My god, the QTEs.

I can't in all faith recommend it. It could also be right up your alley, so I can't discourage people from getting it either.

Re: Post here when you beat a game. I mean it!

I didn't find that boss battle very annoying, Li-Ion- and there is also another way of completeing that level that doesn't involve dressing in spandex. That level was one of the highlights so far, which is depressing. (yep, still working my way through this piece of shit, but I'm so close to the end. Shame the game's value has depreciated so fast in the UK, might be stuck with it now).

I'm giving that Far Cry 3 a go, I reckon. It sounds that, for me, it's a "far cry" (funniest thing I've said all day) from what the second entry in the series was.
