Wood working, makeing a seperating staff.

So I am trying to make the above, a 6 foot staff with 12 inch sections that have a small 1/2 wide 1/8 or less depth or so gap every 11-1/4 inches. The top is a bit different but right now doing the holes in it has me at a loss as I need to bore out a 1 inch hole in the center of a 1-1/4 hexagon pole.

Fun eh?

I got a 10$ 1 inch quick bore but any ides how to make a level 4 inch hole?

What is it, a flail of some kind?

If it's going to come apart anyway why not just cut it up into 12 inch sections and then drill from each end with a 6 inch bit?

EDIT: 6 inches in length, not diameter obviously. I really don't know what I'm talking about here.

Its a separating staff, That sounds about what I am going to do only put 3-4 inch holes in each side.

The whole construction looks like something that looks cool in a movie, but might hurt a lot if actually used

How do you plan on controlling the individual parts?

What I'd use. But we have a mechanical workshop in the basement here, I don't know what you have in terms of equipment.

Since its a prop it will pretty much fall apart if you try and swing it around LOL and I dunno how well the plastic 1 inch chain will hold up LOL.

I thought about getting a drill press but I am short on time and money dragon con is next month and I'l like to get this thing done before then.

Why didn't you start out with a wooden tube in the first place? They come in all forms and sizes as far as I know



Cut it in 12 inch pieces and drill a small hole through the center where you fix the chain, something like this:

|----|
0----0 <------|| screw/nail (held by screw nut on other side)
|----|
|----|
|----|
------

Run the chain all the way from first to last piece and keep it fixed with a screw that goes through and a screw nut on the other side. If it's only a prop it doesn't need to resist all that much force I assume? Just make sure the end pieces are properly connected.

edit: you can also glue tubes of different diameter in between segments, to be able to just put it together.

Not many wood options out here and if I got it online I might as well just have the damn thing made. LOL


Ya it wont need alot of force, hole comes first then I will figure out how the chain will do since its all a rather tight fit.
