Got dem ol' Tom Nook Blues...
Hey All.
I just wanted to publicly say that Tom Nook is a conniving rodent who gouges his clientele.
After a few hours of hardcore fishing, i've gotten my final loan about *half* paid off, and there's still a long way to go.
man, whoever said this game turns into "Animal Fishing" wasn't too far off the mark.
By the way.. the next time you see K.K., request "Go K.K. Rider!"... it's a pretty sweet tune. it reminds me a lot of Kikaida, although i suppose it probably sounds like *a lot* of cheesy Japanese action shows.

I coined the "Animal Fishing" moniker.
Paying off the last of the loan was just a pure 24 - 7 fishing bonanza. Nooks is a petty con artist and there's a good reason he's a "raccoon".
Brad, sounds like you're seriously "into" AC.

Yeah, i guess it's safe to say i'm "into" it, although i've limited myself to only playing for an hour a day. i fish until i get a full load of Snapper, Knifejaw and Coelacanth, sell it, check the shop for any neat items and then check on the town's status at the well. this makes four days in a row that everythig is "perfect". Hoping the Golden Axe turns up pretty soon.
I'd play more, but everything is so damned random that it's basically a waste of time to set any kind of goals for myself. collecting any particular style of furniture is a total crapshoot, going for all the bugs or fish will take at least a year unless i cheat the clock, and you never know what the other villagers will give for doing their errands. if i get one more Stationery or a measly 198 Bells, i'm going to put my axe to another use.
i love this game, but the completist in me hates it at the same time.

Well, I was going to just check my mail and get off the game....but things happened (Check my post in the "help / tips" forum).
The end result? I just got off a 5 hour stretch. And most likely, since I don't have much to do today, I'm going back later tonight.
Since you're speaking of Nooks. He had a sale today. A total bonanza of ONE item in his entire store! I buy it, then he promptly shuts down closing his doors for an unspecified amount of time. After several hours, I got off the game.
Nook..."Crook"??? Hmmmm......
And yeah, I'm also "into" it. Much like any guy hooked into the most recent cool game with great replay value. Still, I feel the need to pick up something else. I might grab something new tomorrow. I won $30+ bucks at poker last night (friend's house). That's a chunk out of a game price tag right there. It's like getting a game for $20, instead of $55.
Brad, any suggestions?

yeah, understood. you can only take so much of Animal Crossing before you need a regular game to set you back on the path to sanity. Like i said, i've been enforcing the 1-hour rule, so in the meantime i've been playing StarFox Adventures which is actually a great game and turned out far better than i imagined. I also recently played Tekken 4 and i'll be cranking out a review on that shortly.
Also picked up the Document of Metal Gear Solid 2, although that's not a real game, and i have Dual Hearts buried beneath a pile somewhere... i thought you were already playing StarFox, but if not then that would be my recommendation. Otherwise i'm kind of laying low right now and waiting for stuff down the line.

Brad, I was playing Star Fox, I beat it. It is a great game, and worth the price and time, in my opinion. I look forward to your overall impressions on the title in your review.
I would like to jump on THPS4, but I don't even see a release date on it. As for other games, I should hop back on my PS2 and try out Legend of Legaia 2. I liked the first one enough, but the gimmick fighting engine might not carry me through another game of it.
On the import front, I'm really thinking of picking up Boku no natsuyasumi ("My summer vacation").......OR.........EverBlue 2. Both of these Japanese titles have gained enough popularity to spawn sequels, yet I haven't even played the originals. These are VERY Japanese type games.....Boku no natsuyasumi is a bit like Animal Crossing, where you just "live" out your days exploring and talking to neighbors, and collecting things. Although there is more emphasis on discovering secrets and such on the small island you're set upon. And you have a time limit of a "summer" (virtual game days).
EverBlue is an underwater treasure hunting game. No fighting, no killing. Just pure, plain and simple, beat the other guys to the buried treasure. Talk to the townsfolks about clues to where it's hidden. Do mini-games to gain some money for equipment, suit up and try your luck in the open sea. Return with the goods and you can find yourself getting more assignments and even a bit of "story" involvement. From what I've read (translated) it's a blend of actual stock footage and game play. I'm kinda interested in that mix. It's another aspect you don't see much of in games.

You should play the turnip market with nook, i bought some for 167 bell per., and sold them to nook for 908bell per., basically i made half a million like it was nothing.

Drunken, that's interesting.....in a few ways.
It makes me wonder just what to do with all this money. I mean, after paying off the massive loans there's nothing to do with so much wealth.
Well, I guess it's just another thing to "collect". Still, for a game based on communication and community, it would have been nice to see future money going into the infrastructure of the entire village. Why just pay off your debt, when you can also help contribute to the town Library, or Bakery, or Movie house. All of which many of the NPCs in my town have been asking about.
It would add further incentive for gamers, and create even more diversity between towns.
But, as it is now, money is not even an issue anymore. A shame, especially as you note, the Turnip Market is so much fun. I bought Turnips in my town at 109 Bells each. I only picked up 150 turnips (the money I had in my wallet at the time......I didn't want to run to the post office)
Drunken, I'll take my turnips to Nooks in the morning. After all, you can't keep 'em longer than a week anyway. Hmmmm....maybe I'll just check the going rates. Hah!
