New Feature Posted: Bargain Basement - December 2005

GameCritics.com brings back it's Bargain Basement feature. This month covers, Stolen, Arx Fatalis, Special Forces: Nemesis Strike and Haunting Ground.

"Starring the absurdly buxom Fiona Belli and her canine companion Hewie, Haunting Ground is the ultimate evolution of Capcom's standard backtracking and keyfetching formula. Normally I'm left cold by this sort of gameplay, but the story and setting in this case were enough to draw me in. With elements of alchemy and the supernatural woven into a mystery that begs to be solved, finding keys shaped like art and a castle full of puzzles and locked doors makes a lot more sense in this context given than they usually do in something like Resident Evil."

I don't think I've ever heard of Arx Fatalis before. Looks interesting. I'll keep my eye open for it.

Thanks for the tip!

Just picked up a near-mint used copy of Arx from GameStop for only $9.99. GameStop and EB games can be great for games that no one wants.

Ok, so I haven't got the time to read it quite yet, but how the F*** did Nemesis Strike get a 7.0? It was one of the worst Xbox titles I think I've ever played (next to Land of the Dead) and had the displeasure of actually owning it for awhile (actually... both of them. o_0)!

I'll come back and read it later and give actual coherent thoughts on what you say about the game, but for now, maybe it's just best to read what I've said and then forget it.

Alright... it was bad. Not 7.0 worthy, but I will agree that if somebody is looking for what is basically a poor version of kill.switch, Nemesis will fit the bill.

I'm just going to leave it at that.

I think I'll get Stolen. I played a demo and really enjoyed it despite four onlookers who would stop telling me the game is garbage. =P Also I encountered a nasty memory overflow crash screen.

Anyhow I was entertained for 5 minutes and 12 bucks (at eb) is a worthwile gamble.
