Re: The Witcher 2

I didn't mean to imply that the difficulty was the reason you stopped playing. Like you said, it was an annoyance for you, and I had a similar experience the first time (having to turn down the...

Re: The Witcher 2

Well, you did clearly explain that the difficulty spike was a big source of frustration for you, and that's what I was responding to.

As for the issue of the scripting, personally I wouldn't call...

Re: Skyrim

I added my thoughts on the game to Brackenbeard's review, so I won't repeat them here. But for the interested, I've been keeping a diary on the game and updating it with lots of pics.

I haven't...

Re: The Witcher 2

It seems to me that since the patch, the difficulty is more balanced. That, and on my second playthrough (and toward the latter part of my first) I've paid more attention to keeping weapons and armor...

Re: The Root of all Evil/Trobule With Atheism

I tracked down this old thread for a post I just put up on my blog (http://www.theaunicornist.com/) today.

I was far too stubborn and proud to admit it four years ago, but I got my ass handed to...

Re: P90x

My brother did it for a while and liked it a lot. Nothing's going to replace a real gym, but if you're pressed for time and want a good workout at home, it fits the bill. From what my bro said, the...

Re: What do you think of this PC?

It would depend entirely on your needs.

It's a fine PC if you need tons of storage space, a modestly powered processor, a crap ton of RAM (I only use 4GB for my gaming rig), and meager graphics...

Re: PC game compatibility question

Yes and yes. It's definitely worth finishing, and doing everything involved to get the "real" ending.

Re: PC game compatibility question

Yes.

And, in the unlikely event that there is a problem, you can run an app in XP Compatibility mode.

Also, before you play Stalker, install the Stalker Complete...

Re: Torchlight

What I mean is installing games on more than one hard drive, and being able to choose which one you install them to when you purchase and download the game. The Steamapps folder can be stuck on any...

Mouse performance: USB polling rate

Well, chalk this up to something I really wish I had known about sooner.

I use a Razer Copperhead. I never bothered installing the software until now. I always just switched the DPI around using...

Re: Torchlight

That's actually one of my favorite things about Steam. When I installed Windows 7 today, I just dragged the contents of my Steamapps folder from the Windows.old folder that is created during the...

Re: Windows 7

Alright, I installed it last night. And reinstalled it this afternoon. I was having a weird problem where the OS would only boot if the installation DVD was in the drive. After doing some research, I...

Re: Torchlight

If you keep a backup copy of the steamapps folder handy when you uninstall steam, you can just paste the files in the appropriate spot after you reinstall the client. That way you won't have to...

Re: That other modern warfare game...

I know right. I love some Unreal on a dedicated server with some buddies, but I don't really buy any shooter for the online experience. The Crysis games are pretty much my favorite games, um, ever,...

That other modern warfare game...

I finished up the single-player campaign Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising tonight. I highly recommend it. I'm pretty sure there's a demo available on all platforms.

I've been reading all the...

Re: Windows 7

I just ordered it. I'll post back when I've got everything re-installed. I was going to wait, but I figured it will be a couple of years before solid state drives are reasonably priced, and it's not...

Re: What games are you looking forward to this fall?

I was pleasantly surprised to see Assassin's Creed 2 getting lots of praise. It sounds like it's more what the first game should have been. I'd say I'm going to pick it up right away, but I'm still...

Re: Brutal Legend sells 260,000 units

At least it did better than Dead Space Extraction, which didn't even break 10,000 units in its first week.

There's still a chance for Brutal Legend to catch on. Mirror's Edge and Dead Space both...

Re: Motion blur

As someone who's played Crysis at 60fps, there is a huge difference with motion blur. It makes things much more realistic. But a bigger part of that is that there are two kinds of motion blur -...

Motion blur

Saw this vid on Youtube, where someone enhanced the trailer for MW2 with motion blur. As for his description, I could not agree more. The first game I played that had really excellent motion blur was...

Re: PC gamers rail against Infinity Ward

Yeah, that's the same pic I linked to at Kotaku. I'm sure a lot of it is talk, but I have little doubt that it will hurt sales overall and it will definitely hurt the game's longevity and customer...

ArmA II... Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

So while some people are complaining about how MW2 (and CoD games in general) are super-scripted and "too Hollywood", ArmA II is there for everyone who wants the real freaking deal.

I have a...

Re: PC gamers rail against Infinity Ward

I think that the 7/10 review from GamePlanet sums it up perfectly:

The CoD franchise was born on the PC, and it was largely because of its popularity in the PC community, especially online...

PC gamers rail against Infinity Ward

I thought $60 was a bit much for a game when I looked up Modern Warfare 2, and so I checked to see if it was the normal $50 at Amazon. Nope. $60. But what I thought was interesting was the user...
