Re: Mechwarrior!

It's weird, last month I was having a conversation about how Microsoft was sitting on two of the best videogame properties ever, yet we've had four years of Xbox 360 without either one of them...

Re: Why is Halo so critically acclaimed and popular?

Progressive health, 2-weapon switching, and frequent mid-level checkpoints. They redefined the way console shooters are made, and people cut Halo huge amounts of slack for being the game that...

Re: Internet rascist, protectionist, nationalism is really pissing me off

Just going on record here as saying that David Stone is my own personal genius now.

Up until two years ago, the internet served a single purpose - to allow me to watch deleted scenes from the...

Re: You Have To Burn The Rope...???

I don't think it's all that subversive or intelligent - to me it just seemed like a little joke about contrived boss fight setups.

They're not wrong about the number of people you have to kill by...

Re: How well-learned does a critic need be?

See, this is why I advise watching movies while playing games - having watched fifty movies I've never seen before makes that hundred hours of Persona feel like less of a huge waste.

Re: Christmas - the biggest fraud ever

Personally, I celebrate Canadian Christmas - up here it's the fourth Friday in December. That way everyone gets a long weekend and Boxing Day's always a Saturday for easy shopping.

It works out...

Re: 007 QOS Opera chapter

Have you used your gadget to zoom in and record the conversation? The plot won't move forward until you've identified and recorded the conspirators.

Re: Half-Life is 10 today

I think the real issue is how quickly Half-Life is deteriorating, why, just ten years later, it could contain as little as 1/1024th of its original relevance and quality!

Re: My (continuing) war with geometry

I had no idea this feature existed - none of the people on my friends list have played the game yet. Want to add me, Doug? I could use a little competition to focus my playing.

Re: Go! Go! Go! Bi-on-ic

You're right about the plastic look, but I can't bring myself to care. It's Bionic Commando, and it's back. If they'd ported the NES version to XBL I'd buy it.

So long as Master D shows up at the...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

The problem I have with Batman's "Code" (Actually the Comics Code), is that it flies in the face of every other part of his character - that is, his refusal to kill the Joker GETS PEOPLE KILLED,...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

The Joker's emotional reaction to being foiled has little to do with his relationship with Batman - it's about his beliefs being upset, which would have happened whoever was doing the foiling,...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

Sure, in the comics they have some bizarre fascination with clinging to the CCA's rules (no matter how absurdly ridiculous that is in the face of modern depictions of villains, but this is a movie,...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

But you're wrong - it is a failure. The people on the ferry's refusal to blow one another up is a complete refutation of everything the Joker believes in, everything he's been...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

Oh, and Doug, I forgot to mention - by no depth, I mean that it was a one-note character. It's not that he didn't play that one note in an interesting fashion, it's just that was the only one he...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

I understand what you're saying, Chi, but I've really never seen the Nolan movies as especially 'realistic'. By comparison to the other films, sure, in order, they were, a children's show, a Gothic...

Re: The Dark Knight Thread

Actually, there is something bad you can say about Ledger's performance. In fact, I'd go so far as to say everything was bad about Ledger's performance.

I really liked the rest of the film, but I...

Re: Review Bribery?

I've never gone to a developer's office or had a special presentation of a game, but I understand just how easy it can be to be swayed by meeting people who worked on the game.

For example, I was...

Re: Why Kojima, why

Yeah, that was pretty obviously a lie - I'd be shocked if there's cutscene that lasts more than ten minutes in the game. Oh, I'm sure there'll be an awful lot of them, and some stiched...

Re: Your gaming security blankets

Couldn't agree with you more about Hitman. I loved it in "Contracts" when they redid all of the Hitman 1 levels for the Silent Assassin engine, throwing out the Jungle because it couldn't be changed....

Re: Your gaming security blankets

Like Brad, my constant drive to play new games keeps me from looking back too often. That being said, there isn't a year the goes by without me beating Prince of Persia (Original - PC) a couple dozen...

Re: NPD: March 2008

Gene - I'm actually playing through Vegas 2 for review right now, and I'm hating it much less than you. Yeah, there's some shoddy rush-job material on display, and it's essentially just new levels...

Re: Nintendo Wii outsells PS3 3-to-1 in Japan in March

You're missing his point - there was no question mark at the end of the sentence, just a period. He means that Dennis Who, the first baseman for the Cambridge Scorpions, is extremely interested in...

Re: Slate blasts Wii online

My favorite part:

"Four-letter words or not, a pop-up text message is a poor substitute for shouting in someone's face when a well-timed Bob-omb sends him flying off-screen."

Apparently this is...
