Re: Dragon Age 2 has same sex relationships

I don't think it's a big deal that a game has same sex relationships, no. I do think it's interesting, and noteworthy, that Bioware's two flagship franchises are so at odds with each other over that...

Re: Dragon Age 2 has same sex relationships

That's actually my point. Allow me to reconstruct the timeline here.

Point -1 (not wholly relevant to our debate, but worth noting): Jade Empire is released. The game has homosexual relationships...

Dragon Age 2 has same sex relationships

OK, it's extremely bad form to delurk after this long for what could be construed as an "I told you so!" but really, I'm just more interested in re-opening the conversation.

Dragon Age 2 has same...

Re: Is GTA starting to fade?

I'll take option F: GTA4 was a bad game. The hype powered its opening weekend, but the word spread around and killed its hype fast. Hence, the sales dropped accordingly.

Sandbox games thrive on...

Re: Please Rate this review: Shadow of the Colossus

You've done a great job with the parts, but what about the sum? What does the game mean? What's it about?

I'm curious to know what you think of it more holistically.

Re: [Spoiler] The spoileriffic Mass Effect 2 Thread

I liked that idea. It was disturbingly creepy.

How it LOOKED was ridiculous.

One of the models for it in the art book was much, much better. The one on page 10, I think. Opposite the intro to...

Re: [Spoiler] The spoileriffic Mass Effect 2 Thread

Got through with the team alive, but my ship's crew were decimated.

My run:
Tech: Legion.
Fire Team: Garrus.
Biotic Shield: Samara.
Distraction Team: Miranda.
Crew Escort: Jacob.
Squad:...

Re: Bioshock 2

Setting you as a Big Daddy was the only inspired decision the game makes, from what I've seen so far. It's a way to explore a dynamic the first game didn't, and the developers do seem to have...

Bioshock 2

So, I've begun playing it.

...

I'm pretty sure I hate it. Also pretty sure that I'm not feelin' like a Big Daddy here.

Mass Effect 2: Tell me of your Shepard

Because I'm curious, and asked the question in another forum, and crave more data. (MORE DATA.)

If you played Mass Effect 1, tell me which Shepard you're going to take across into Mass Effect 2....

Re: Brutal Legend

This may be the harshest thing I ever say about Brutal Legend, and Double Fine studios in general.

I think they, well, just don't have the talent to make good games. They need better programmers...

Australia Debates R18+ Rating

A discussion paper has been released (finally!) on the merits and problems with an R18+ videogame rating in Australia. Submissions for public opinion are being solicited until the end of February....

Re: Game of the Decade?

You are SO right. This really is one of the most amazing stories of the decade -- Western and Japanese gaming has schismed. We've heard about how Japanese developers are beginning to become troubled...

Re: Game of the Decade?

See, I'd never consider Farenheit for a number of reasons.

1. It's not been influential. As you've noted, no games are rushing to do similar things to what it did.
2. It was financially not very...

Re: Game of the Decade?

Super Smash Brothers Melee is going to make the finals.

This is wrong on many levels. OK, actually just one.

But still!

Re: Game of the Decade?

OK, which is fine. You can argue it was a mistake from the word go to make it open world. (I disagree, but it's a cogent argument.)

Re: WoW Cataclysm

I'll put up my hand as Unicorn #3. I tend to make new characters, love the first 20 levels, get a bit bogged down in the next 20, and then lose interest before making a new one. Mainly, it's because...

Re: Game of the Decade?

That's the first respectable 'of the decade' list I've seen, too. It's a Best Game Of, rather than a Game of the (the latter of which I'm more interested in) but yeah. Very well argued.

Re: Game of the Decade?

That's a feature, not a bug. :)

What's frustrating me about the one at CrispyGamer is clearly nobody has a clue what the criteria are, but it shows the reason why (to my mind) arguing the...

Re: Game of the Decade?

Wait up, what? I can't comment on Wolfenstein, but Far Cry 2 was built from the ground up on its open-world design. That was the very first stage point. You can argue it was done badly, or that open...

Re: Best Games of 2009

Best Game:

Brutal Legend. For all its faults, Brutal Legend was an awe inspiring attempt to be something different. The art direction was inspired, and even though the writing wasn't particularly...
