Phantom Dust, Where Art Thou?

Phantom Dust is a game I've been curious about since the initial (and curious) announcement. An XBox game made by Microsoft Japan?! A strategic/action game meant to be played on Live?? Count me in!

And so I stood to be counted last week. I asked the clerk in my local gameshop when Phantom Dust was expected to arrive. Wednesday. So I preordered it, because in this local gameshop I didn't have to give them five bucks to preorder it. I waited for the call. Nothing.

A week later, I visit again and ask a different clerk when Phantom Dust is coming in. No clue. No idea.

So, please, where is my Phantom Dust? Why are release dates so, so difficult to keep in this industry? Why do they keep doing this -- don't they realize that crap like this kills hype and momentum? I can't figure it out.

Ok, lemme explain Gamestop's (retarded) policy as explained to me by my good buddy, "Overweight Gamestop Employee". He says it's like this. If a game gets no reserves, it's shipped snail mail. So y'know, 3-4 days after ship date, it gets here.

Now, their new deal with 20 dollar games is that they don't allow preorders. So no matter what, it's snail mail. Now this may be confusing, because both you and I preordered the damn thing. Well here's the deal. 20 dollar preorders don't count. You just get a generic reserve. It means you're gauraunteed a copy of the game, but they're not ordering any extras, and it still ships snail mail because there are "no preorders".

So essentially, 20 dollar games will never sell well at a Gamestop anymore. The people who want it will "preorder" it, and those who don't preorder will never even see it.

Anyways, it shipped yesterday. Expect it in a couple more days.

Jesus, that's beyond retarded.

I didn't get around to preordering it, but I suspect I'll find it on the shelves sooner or later anyway.

Luckily, we don't have Gamestops in Canada. We have Microplay, so it's not much of a trade-off , but from everything I have heard about GameSpot it's at least a step up.

But, preorder policy or no, the game was supposed to ship last week. It didn't. The gaming industry is like that unreliable friend you had in school. It's fun to be around, but don't ever make plans cause it can't keep a date for shit.

Really? I haven't been following it closely, but I thought it was always scheduled for this week.

From what I understand, Phantom Dust got delayed a week from the 7th to the 15th due to some minor problem.

I've been looking for copies at my local stores since yesterday. At least one Gamestop in Massachusetts has it, as I learned on the phone with a Gamestop employee, but I can't get to that store.

I think I'm just going to order off Amazon.
