SANTA MONICA, Calif. and LONDON, June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Game Show Network, the world's number one channel for games on television, is broadening its programming slate to include, for the first time ever, video game-related programming.

Two popular video game programs produced by the UK's Gamer.tv Limited, GAME SAUCE and GAMER.TV, will anchor a new hosted video game programming block. A soon-to-be-named host will provide viewers with up-to-the minute video game news which will air in a wrap-around format between the new series. Launching in the fall, the block will debut 5-7 PM ET/2-4 PM PT on Thursdays and be repeated on Saturdays and Sundays at the same respective times.

To kick off the new programming on its premiere night, GSN will produce a documentary focusing on video games. The video game documentary will be GSN's second. GSN's first documentary, BIG BUCKS: THE PRESS YOUR LUCK SCANDAL garnered the network's highest ratings ever. Specific content surrounding the video game documentary will be announced at a later date.

GSN, now in over 51 million homes, will air two half-hours of GAME SAUCE and one thirty minute episode of GAMER.TV in the block. GAME SAUCE and GAMER.TV shows will be original every Thursday. Both shows are topical and will present that week's hottest video game news and products. Additionally, GSN's host will report on the latest up to the minute news in the world of video games from such Southern California locales as Venice Beach, skateboard parks and arcades.

"We're delighted to be able to announce this distribution deal with Game Show Network, which will allow viewers in the US fantastic access to two of Gamer.tv's best loved shows," added Gamer.tv CEO Chris Bergstresser. "GAME SAUCE and GAMER.TV have a loyal following around the world, and we're very much looking forward to welcoming Game Show Network's viewers in the States to join them."

The video game block also presents the network with numerous product placement opportunities. Michael Sakin, GSN's Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales, is actively pursuing software developers, soft drink and fast food companies, wireless cell phone distributors and the automotive industry for product placement integration opportunities.

I think Arcade was the shizzy and never should have went off the air. As for the new video game shows, I'll wait until I see them before I make a judgement. I get the Game Show network with this Cox Digital Cable, and it's one of the few new channels that I actually watch. Sadly, I always miss Let's Make A Deal! when it's on.

No, the real sad thing is I don't get ANY of these channels.....in the California bay area which is a crime against gamer humanity.

Also......It's just me....personally, but the name of these shows / channels just need a bit more credibility.

Game Sauce...?

Gamer TV...?

Sounds MTV-esque to be sure.

Can't we just have a name that everyone can get along with....gamers and casual viewers alike?

Electronic Entertainment Network, or something bland and boring like that. Much like how IGN has built their small empire by NOT painting themselves into a corner. You can bet with a wide open name you'd get more support from other related industries. Sony, Sharper Image, Nokia phone companies, and others would kill to have an outlet not only for video games, but for ALL electronic media / entertainment.

After all, you need a TV to play the games, and those with enhanced stereo features would like to know about the latest recievers and audio components. Plus, it keeps the door wide open for all computer peripherals and devices.

It just makes solid business sense. Cater to everyone, not just the teens and college level gamers, but also the credit card holding disposable income adults.

Those with enhanced stereo features would probably rather be playing games on their TV than watching a TV program about them, which is the problem with G4 and these new shows. Watching other people play games, or, even worse, watching them talk about playing games, is simply not as exciting as playing most of the time. I don't care how "mainstream" they make it, I don't think video game TV programming will make it.

I think in small doses, video game TV can quite easily make it, but the thing is, in most cases they're going about it the wrong way. We don't need a million review shows. One will do, thanks. Also, a truly informative newsy type show would be nice and I'm not just talking release dates etc, but real stuff.

And watching people play games can be pretty fun. I've been staying up every night until 4 in the morn to watch reruns of the old Nickelodeon game show, "Nick Arcade". This is mostly due to insomnia, but it's still a good show...though my judgement might be hampered due to lack of sleep.

Then why the hell are gaming websites, blogs, and forums so popular? :P

I'm more along the lines with Boy: all that have been shown so far are the "E! News Daily" of gaming shows (i.e. crap). And the right type of game (suggestions?) could be showy enough to work as spectator sport. Mortal Kombat worked pretty well to that effect.

no one here gets G4? this channel is all i watch ever since we got digital cable. the show variety is somewhat sparse but its always entertaining.

playing may be MORE exciting but watching people playing games can also be pretty entertaining. Arena, the only show on G4 which features real competitive gameplay is always interesting to watch. kinda like watching sports for gamers. i think the show has alot of potential. they should work on presenting the show in such a way that the audience can know exactly whats goin on at all times. as it is, you simply watch footage of different players at different times.

for instance, the show would be a million times better if you could actually see the location and movement of the teams flags in UT CTF with respect to the level layout at ALL times. they could easily just show a small graphic in the bottom corner of the screen of a top-down view of the level and the current location of the flags. the most exciting part of the show is when you have two good teams both waiting for their flags to return. i can imagine how it would be better if the audience could follow the game more closely, instead of just being told when a team captures the flag.

of course most of the guys that go on the show are nerds and computer geeks so they never really talk shit. but it would be nice to see some of the more cocky players come on the show pissin people off and taking the game to a personal level as rivals try to really embarass each other on national tv while playing. could really make for some great programminghttp://www.gamecritics.com/forums/im...ons/icon14.gif
