Nintendo's "Wii U Experience"

Anybody attended/been invited to one of these? I recieved an invite to one in Austin, and I'll probably go. I'll admit that I've been on the fence about this system, and may not pick one up. Maybe this will convince me one way or the other.

I have a few invites if anybody wants to go.

I've never been to one or been invited to one, but I'd love to attend one. I'd be extremely grateful if I could have one of your spare invites.

I had passes to the event in Atlanta. I ended up getting tickets to a Braves baseball game and went there instead.

I am buying a Wii U anyways. Pikmin 3 already sold me on it.

I did not make it, unfortunately. Kiddo was sick so I felt bad about pawning her off on grandma (wife was out of town). From everything I've read from others who have attended an event it seems like it was a bit underwhelming. Aside from ZombieU there does not appear to be anything incredibly compelling about the control pad interface.

I'll be able to report on the "experience" soon since I picked one up today. The control pad is charging at this moment. Maybe Sunday I'll have something to say.

Full unboxing and impressions writeup please :p

Just joking; I won't be getting one of these myself. What was your own thinking about this - why did you go for it?

Sorry I didn't make an unboxing video. However, I am in the process of editing a 48 page essay on the unboxing experience. Stay tuned.

Three reasons I bought a Wii U:
1. Curiosity
2. I buy all of Nintendo's main systems
3. Pikmin 3.

It will take me awhile to give a full impression. I don't have a lot of time for gaming and it isn't fair to judge a system so early in its lifecycle.

My over impressions so far are favorable. Although I feel like this is the system Nintendo should have come out with 6 years ago.

One thing that bugs me is how Nintendo forces you to use the tablet all of the time. Even if you use a Wii-mote to play Super Mario or a Pro Controller for Ninja Gaiden, the tablet stays on. Going shopping or changing system settings you have to use the tablet.

The social aspect of the Wii U, Miiverse, is cool. You can leave in-game comments, kind of like Demon's Souls, and visit forums on without leaving the console.

Good reasons. I bought a PS3 for Demon's Souls (and then proceeded not to play it for a year, but that's another story).

It will be interesting to see what comes out for it, though the tablet just turns me off straight away.

Apropos of nothing, this is an amusing and interesting review:
