For all of its claims of being a 3-D fighter, it escaped no one’s attention that movements in Virtua Fighter remained on a 2-D plane. With the Tekkens and Soul Caliburs giving players eight-way directional movement (into and out of the background), Virtua Fighter was beginning to look behind the times. That has changed, as Virtua Fighter 4 allows players to move in three dimensions.
