The original WWF Smackdown game engine drew a lot praise since it allowed for quick wrestling action on screen without any hiccuping in the performance. WWF Smackdown 2 reuses that same engine with the usual tweaks and improvements. Clearly the textures are cleaner and more varied—especially the facial textures—giving each wrestler a more convincing appearance. Little things are noticeable as well like more environmental lighting and animated audiences.
