To expand on the character interaction in the game, Bethesda is trying to recreate the kind of open-ended gameplay that was common in the previous The Elder’s Scrolls releases. Your actions throughout the game ultimately determine how the NPCs will react to you. As play continues, players accumulate "disposition" points, as do the other characters in the world. These points essentially determine the reactions of the characters that you encounter in the game. A character with low disposition points will provoke aggressive behavior, whereas high disposition points invoke civility. Other subtle details have an effect as well. Simply wearing expensive armor could make certain NPCs envious or make them view you with reverence. As in the real world, you are better off if you are a charismatic figure. Exploiting your gift of gab is another way to increase your disposition points. Those without such talents can use actions to influence their disposition, such as "admire," "intimidation," or "taunt," each of which have unique consequences.
