Though hardly photo realistic in appearance, the graphics exude a sense of realism and complexity that is lacking in the average console RPG. The surrounding foliage possesses a truly organic appearance (although it is made up of polygons and textures). It’s also refreshing to find environments that are not prerendered or stylistically drawn to make them look pretty but off-limits to exploration. The programmers at Bethesda added little touches to add realism like the gradual progression of day to night or changing weather patterns. Moreover, everything in the game is done in real-time to prevent an interruption in the illusion that what you are playing is a real world called Tamriel.
